All the big names i can definitely see them being on this list, though initially was surprised bandai namco would be on here considering though they do have online functionality in there games i’m pretty sure you can play them offline until i googled their online games and yeah i see they got into the mobile and fps shooter space though only like 3 games i think. I guess maybe it affects some up and coming projects maybe?

It’s going to be a sad day when Valve’s current ownership group decides to or is forced to move on. Unfortunately Gabe and crew can’t outlast father time and you know that private equity groups and multinational corporations are just salivating at the prospect of further monetizing Steam’s brand recognition and install base.

The campaign hasn’t even ended, and they are already lobbying against?
Oh brother, they are afraid, they are afraid!!

Notice GOG is not there either?

Roblox? Roblox has only one fucking game so they’re prepare to kill it
Ngl this is a good decision. Kids should go outside instead of playing video games
Naddesh
I wouldn’t call it a sign that Valve is all that great. They basically don’t make games anymore so they don’t need to. Valve in the first place is not compliant with SKG because if the service ever goes down you lose access to your entire library, unlike gog but it is a storefront, not a game

By European definition, Steam is not a monopoly. The original meaning of monopoly is “The only suplier or demander on a market”, which is the definition the EU uses.
Because there are other distributers, Steam is legally not a monopoly in Europe. Steam is, however, a gatekeeper, a company or individual that uses their influence to control what and who gains access to the market.
This is what the US describes as a monopoly.
Just wanted to say that, because I had arguments with American friends about what’s a monopoly, because the definitions of the word are different in the US and Europe.

Hardly surprising, this initiative could very well bring more business to Steam while costing the ones in the image money.
Imagine they can’t shut their servers down without providing an alternative. The have a few options:
“Sell” the liability – get someone to take over the responsibility of keeping a server online, either giving them full rights or by paying a lump sum. Steam could make this profitable no problem.
Release the server code/software – Requires a lot of effort in most cases, especially if they want to minimize leakage of their specialized tools and competitive advantage. Steam could launch a service to let individuals or organizations to run such server software with them and use the Steam ecosystem, kinda like old days of Half-Life.
Provide an offline version – Also a lot of effort. For Steam this means the game remains sellable and likely will find a new audience that was put off by the live service aspects of the game.
Literally only upsides for Steam. Only thing they want is for the rules to allow for what they did to CSGO, i.e. force move everyone over to CSGO 2, and they’re golden.

I’ve heard for the 1st time about Video Games Poland as a Pole, so I’ve checked and of course they represent in Poland half of the other companies listed here with managing board being people from Sony, Microsoft and Bandai Namco

Niantic is basically obeying their Nintendo overlords. They’ve been milking that PoGo cash cow since 2016 and they don’t want to even mildly upset them.

SEGA sadly does not shock me, they just pulled all their games off any other platforms and are now going to put them behind a subscription scheme.

I mean I don’t want to be a Gaben cuck, but all the other offers compared to steam suck absolute balls. Steam has effectively won a monopoly simply because the competition is terrible.

When I saw this posted in the Steam sub, I thought “Who the heck is Video Games Poland?”
It’s Sony Interactive Entertainment UK, Bandai Namco, and Microsoft. You know, those three famous Polish games companies.
Why supercell gotta grief their rep even more
My brain lagged out and i was frantically trying to find EA and Activision. Got scared for a second until i saw them

I notice the lack of Valve on this list
