Ed Boon was asked last year how much longer he can keep up working on franchises like Mortal Kombat and Injustice. Boon is the creative director for NetherRealm Studios, which is based in Chicago, Illinois in the U.S.

“I guess as long as it’s still fun to do, is probably going to dictate that, because it’s a lot of work,” Ed Boon said on how long he plans on working on these titles.

“Hundreds of people work on these games,” Boon said, which is something he’s said before about the amount of people that it takes to make a new Mortal Kombat or Injustice title.

“As long as we’re keeping the fans happy with the games we’re making, we’re going to keep doing them,” Boon stated.

This is really good news for fans of the franchise, as Boon has lead the team at NetherRealm Studios to all sorts of new highs, with the Mortal Kombat and Injustice franchises seeing high sales and heavy praise from critics.

While we don’t know what new game NetheRealm Studios is working on just yet, we know it has been planned for a long time, and that the company is always working on multiple games at one time.

Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection is set to feature the original games in the franchise with rollback netcode and other bells and whistles. The developers of that game have previously spoken about why the handheld versions were included and mentioned that Mortal Kombat 4’s arcade release hasn’t been accurately ported until now.
