PCGamer about to start looking like those Onion articles that just aren’t satire anymore
If there was ever evidence that unions need a proper comeback it’s this — the trick is just making sure they don’t suck as hard as something like SAG

#1 – work in the games industry

Damn.. they way the headline is perfectly cut at the right place.
Edit: On my phone, it reads like this…
“20 foolproof ways to get laid
off in the videogame industry”

Working as hard as you possibly can, dedicate your life to 80+ hour work weeks, even be part of the team that made a hit, multibillion dollar title only to be let go on seeming whim, but actually to prevent being paid promised, agreed to benefits, isn’t enough?

I absolutely regret going to college for game design.

truly no one is safe when even call of duty employees are getting fired. even if there is bloat, surely you can leave the biggest yearly cash cow alone…

I don’t want even more people to lose their jobs, but something needs to happen, and maybe the AAA games market needs to crash for that to happen. Not only did many people lose their jobs already, a lot of the people that are left are now continuing to work while being scared of the next round of layoffs.

How about foolproof ways to get laid in the videogame industry?

Seems like jobs in this industry are just project based now, and people should expect to be laid off after the project, or their part, is done. It makes sense so I don’t know what people expect

I feel like over the next few years, all these laid off devs will just start their own much smaller studios and make much cheaper and lower-scope games instead

“EA CEO talks AI, says the usual stuff before the bong rip hits and he starts blabbing about a future where 3 billion people are creating EA’s games with it” holy fucking shit that headline is gold

Work on a successful and good game
vengenful-crow-22
Have a game sell poorly. Fired from your job.
Have a game sell amazingly, believe it or not, also, fired from you’re job.
See, bad sells, good sells. We have the best games becuase we have equal opportunity firing.
-Some Venezuelan CEO probably

Had us the first half not gonna lie

People have been complaining that AAA games are shit and now were complaining that studios that have been making the shit games are closing?
Look at Expedition 33. Smaller studios with less overhead make better games, and too many older studios have become bloated. As sad as it is to lose the studios of our childhoods, a culling is needed to make budgets come down and quality go up.

I’ve been making games for 30 years and would not do it again.
