Explanation, so in the 80's, Ronald Reagan was making a lot of advancements towards what we would call cyberpunk, though not directly, with Reagan starting to privatize a lot, especially public services, and those cyber phycos (or whatever they're called), came from Reagan also shutting down mental institutions.

Forgot to add some things, such as it being everything if it all went wrong in most ways possible, and also cranked up to 11 on the scale of technological advancements.
Literally in the last 24 hours there was a comment bitching that the clothing/makeup style isn’t really “punk” and the writers don’t know wtf they’re talking about.
And maybe that’s true about today. Fine, I’m not a fashion expert or whatever.
But lots of the fashion are the gaudy and flashy-colors of the 80’s where going into NYC meant it wasn’t beyond-the-pale to see a neon pink mohawk where gold sunglasses
