Turn 10 has put out nothing but quality Forza games for over a decade… They sell well, they review well, and they’re seemingly a well run studio, and this is the thanks they get.

  2. They are really slaughtering their studios. Even the successful ones, like Turn 10 here.

Turn10 devs are some of the laziest. Masters of copy/paste. While I never want to see someone lose their job you can’t say this isn’t unexpected. If you wanted a glimpse into what the next Forza Motorsport was gonna be, it was always a lightly revised physics model, slightly better graphics, and a car list that was just the best of previous FM games w/DLC, and some of the better cars from the previous Horizon base and it’s DLC. Track list was the same tired shit with maybe one or two new tracks that no one wanted. Maybe they didn’t have the budget, maybe they didn’t have the time. But either way after FM4 the games were barely worth playing.

  4. The new Perfect Dark was canceled, as well as Rare’s new game.

The solution is so fucking obvious. Make exclusives. The Series X STILL doesnt have a single one, and we are probably in the latter half of the console generation right now.

I feel so bad for Raven man. They make absolute BANGERS and then get sent to the cod mines for all eternity. And now they are slowly being killed, im sure eventually they will be shut down completely because they keep laying off staff so their quality is gonna go down and down. Just like poison

Phil Spencer is really good at two things –

    1. Spending Daddy Nadella’s money to buy successful studios and IP’s that he’s been unable to cultivate internally.

    2. Firing the developers at the studios purchased, and other internal studios, whilst telling everyone that the Xbox division is doing great and that these layoffs will actually improve the business and games moving forward somehow.

That’s about it. Outside of Game Pass being a success he’s almost as bad for Microsoft as Don Matrick was and he’s as bad for the broader industry as Yves Guillemot and Lars Wingefors.

  7. TIL Ravensoft is still around. Wow that is a blast from the past.

Wait, isn’t Turn 10 making Fable? I hope I’m wrong smh. One of my most anticipated games.

    Good riddance.

Independent devs have made the majority of the games worth playing the last decade.

These huge corporations really can’t seem to do the math on how badly this kind of PR will cost them in the long run. Certainly much more than employing the people WHO MAKE THEIR FUCKING PRODUCTS.

Eh comes with the territory. If you wanna be a game dev there’s like a 99% chance you’ll be laid off. I wonder when we’ll start seeing a drop in talent available for hire and I wonder if it’ll even matter since AI is getting better by the day lmao. Sad.

  12. They’re gonna cut 50% off the full retail price of games, too, right

Literally the only game Xbox was making I was interested in, Perfect Dark, was cancelled today as part of these layoffs. Unfortunately, Phil Spencer wasn’t included in the layoffs.

  14. Alex11867

Damn they even laid off some of the current COD devs?

Honestly I expected Turn 10 layoffs soon after Forza Motorsport. Crazy it didn’t happen after that.

Ah yes, the timeworn MS strategy of laying people off before reporting earnings so you can juice the stock (they’re not the only ones that do it, but they REALLY like doing it).

  17. Bubbly-Swan6275

microsoft just buys companies to run them into the ground lmao

the only thing they can actually sustain is their software monopolies on operating systems, office software, and locked in corporate b2b SaaS

  18. Gandalf_the_gray1

Does Phil Spencer even know what he’s doing? Ever since he took charge all he does is buy studios, lay off workers and cancels games

A buddy of mine that works for ZMI QA said over 100 QA staff were laid off today. Don’t blame QA when the next Bethesda game is a buggy mess…

I guess the record revenue meant nothing, even for the successful studios.
