This just in. Game companies don’t like it when people mod their hardware in order to get everything for free when software sales are the overwhelming majority of their profits.

We’ll see if this goes anywhere

This isn’t even new or unique to Nintendo.

You could get console banned back on the Xbox 360.

Blatant lie. It’s only when using their online service in ways they don’t want it used.

As of today, no Switch 2 has ever been banned, and I bet $5 it will never happen.

At least this can get rid of hackers if they catch them

I’m not sure why everyone is downvoting this article or acting like people are stupid for daring to believe that a corporation shouldn’t be able to brick their hardware or take their shit. Just because something is normalized doesn’t mean it’s right.

You should own the things you buy. Just because you don’t own them now doesn’t make it better. Yes, Nintendo will only do this in rare circumstances, but the fact is that they *can*, because they want to, because you’re not actually allowed to do whatever you want with your console.

I believe they should have the right to control their online space and ban you from their *services* for cheating or misconduct. But the hardware and the OS should not be a *service* to you. That should be your property to modify as you see fit.
