Why aren’t PC built like this? It’s so easy to fix things here

That man was a fucking scam artist.

This is by far the worst thing i ever serviced. I actually like they just said fuck it and closed it off entirely.

  2. Nuker-79

I’m liking this setup, wonder what the cooling would be like for some of the gpu’s that pump out some decent heat.

Look up PC cases from the era **before** this current “fishtank” craze: we had *removable motherboard trays*, *dual system support* for even two full ATX motherboards back to back, tons of *external bays* for expansion, etc.

I think the greatest loss in PC history was Lian Li popularizing the modern fishtank PC case with their *O11 Dynamic* series, causing the **death** of their classic *aluminium* PC cases, which were in a *class of their own.*

The old Dell Dimension desktop cases would split, with the motherboard completely clear of the PSU, optical drives, etc. to work on it.

There were also mATX cases with motherboard trays that would slide out for servicing.

I think the reason it isn’t popular is because you’re not usually changing the motherboard all that often, and access to PCIe slots and RAM isn’t generally a problem for most cases in the first place.

    Good luck with cable management.

  6. drunxor

Haha I had one of these, still have the hard drive around somewhere, had to get rid of the rest when I moved one time. Was a good computer but never tried upgrading it

  7. High_Overseer_Dukat

It fits with only apple components.

You could 100% do this if you wanted, but this is shit hp levels of proprietary.

  8. Different-Ship449

    Many workstations have latches.

But yeah, Apple: solders the memory, the storage, and the CPU to the board now on their laptops.

The Polycarbonate “the premium material bulletproof glasses are made” is an actually 2.5 usd per kg commodity material.

  10. tailslol

dell and alienware was using that design but it tend to get very hot in here.

  11. MDK1980

Because people here like tempered glass cases that explode when you look at them funny.

  12. I mean its not that hard to remove at most 4 thumb screws and you can access everything in every pc

  13. xnoob69

I’m primarily a Mac user. But not even Mac’s are built like this today. That’s the great thing about a PC, you can 100% find something like this if you want. You’re not limited by apples design choices.

  14. BoostNGoose

Imma get downvoted like crazy for this but most people aren’t ever opening their cases. For those of us in the enthusiast world who like to tinker and IT pros this is a feature but for a large majority of people that need an Internet machine they treat it as a sealed box not to be messed with

  15. riffraffmcgraff

I have a massive Thermaltake Core case that seats the motherboard horizontally and access from all around. It’s huge but I chose it specifically to allow an easier building experience for my first PC. Still working 10 years later.

They do exist to some extent.

  16. No-Upstairs-7001

Apple lost its identity when it turned to Intel

  17. Particular-Poem-7085

as I’m watching the LTT video of new macs getting storage upgrades via soldering nand chips. Which is STILL cheaper even when you pay someone to do it as opposed to getting it from apple.

  18. GunmanChronicler

Kinda sucks if the latch breaks

  19. TheAbstracted

Genuinely considering doing my next build in one of these cases, always loved the way they look.

  20. Prize_Loss1996

I love Mac’s but windows has pretty good cabinets too did you know there is a legend cabinet where in the cabinet there is a drawer for each of your ssd’s, few glow in dark, few look like a high teach shoe or a classic iron man head…. there are so many of those and they look so good you just need to pay a premium for those.

  21. Secto77

There’s a few 3D print files and you can use this case for a build. Been a thing for a long time in the hackintosh crowd

  22. McQuibbly

I prefer having all the components connected to the same single surface. It sucks needing to check every panel I pull off to make sure Im not ripping a ribbon cable

If we could have this flip out door containing the whole system in a neat way Im all for it

  23. Lewcypher_

Lian Li cases are pretty damn easy to build in. With how heavy gpus are, you’re gonna need a few more screws.

  24. bllueace

Wonder how different things would be if he was still alive

  25. Balc0ra

I had a case that did do that from Recom. That must have been like 2009 or something like that

  26. ProfessionalCreme119

The crowd when he opens that door

Just got a completely unupgradable mac mini m4 and it is so so so far away from that video… a far cry from Job’s era.

I wish things stayed like this, but I will always have my pc and that ancient no fancy, no RGB, no glasses and in general no BS case that opens like that.

  28. eldelshell

Stick a modern GPU inside that and watch it melt. That plastic skin was a horrible thermal conductor and would only work to choke any air circulation. They were very loud too.

Pretty though. Although my favorite line was the white one.

  29. AndrewH73333

I do wish some PCs had handles on top.

  30. Glyphpunk

Honestly I think that hinged design for the motherboard to come out and be easily accessible is great (especially with big hands and fat fingers like mine that hate having to try and get into the little bits). The only downside I can see is that larger/heavier components like liquid-cooling systems or modern graphics cards would likely cause huge issues with being moved *with* the motherboard like that. The easy option I would see for that though would be having a standalone spot in the case for the graphics cards to remain fixed in place while connecting to the motherboard via cables.

  31. StygianStrix

Doesn’t really make it any easier to fix, also parts weigh so much more these days that you’d risk dropping the door and breaking shit

Also you’d likely need a separate IO board so you don’t tug all your cables when you open the door

  32. Friendly_Day5657

do you fucking realize the shapes and sizes you can built PCs in?

  33. Fatesadvent

Also prebuilts dont want you to fix things on your own. Most people will just fuck it up. For everyone else, they want to profit off you. Repair at a cost (like geek squad), or new parts instead of upgrading gives them more profits.

  34. Ok_Neat9628

This made me realize how backwards are we in aestethically good looking pc.. 25 years and nothing changed, still the same ugly shit

  35. salamoon84

its not a thing these times anymore… you specify and build a PC, use it, and after 4-5 years buy another one… i didnt add card or sdd after the build in my last 3 builds… (12 years).

  36. Commander1709

How often do you have to fix your PC?

  37. Acrobatic-Big-1550

Yeah exactly what apple is known for..

  38. Walkernorunning

I used to stash my money in those when I was a teen.

  39. Location-Actual

I prefer my CoolerMaster Cosmos II. Very roomy and easy to access everything. I’ve had the case for over 10 years.
