Hey /r/gaming! I help run Weird Gloop, which is a group of RuneScape wiki nerds that specializes in un-enshittifying wikis by getting them away from Fandom’s insanely bad ad experience, and giving control back to the wiki editors that are actually doing all the work.
We started off in 2018 by moving the RuneScape/OSRS wikis to runescape.wiki, which became (afaik) the first wiki fork to overwhelmingly beat out the abandoned Fandom version on Google. minecraft.wiki followed about 2 years ago, and since then we've been doing a bunch of official wikis (League of Legends, Warframe, Vampire Survivors) directly with the game developers (surprise, game devs don't like the Fandom ads anymore than you do…)
Even putting aside the dogshit ads, it's crazy just how much better all of those wikis got after they moved away from Fandom. The quality of the actual wiki content goes up in a noticeable, measurable way (here's some fun graphs), because more people show up and want to help, when they feel like they're contributing to something that isn't taking advantage of them.
A bunch of the wikis we ended up hosting got the ball rolling because of people on game subreddits venting about Fandom (here’s a conversation on /r/balatro, which launched at balatrowiki.org just last week). So I thought it might be a good idea to just ask people here: what wikis are currently stuck on Fandom that you wish could get out?

Have no suggestion just want to say thanks for the work you do, wishing you the best.
Escape from Tarkov
Not really gaming related, but I would love for both Marvel/DC to move away from Fandom, mostly because there’s actually a lack of information related to comics, runs and characters.
All of them. There’s not a single wiki that wouldn’t benefit from getting off of Fandom, it is enshittification manifest.
I want Memory Alpha (Star Trek) to escape.
Can someone tell me why a lot of people dislike Fandom? I’m genuinely curious.
Osrs wiki is so great for the game and heavily used, a much better experience.
I highly encourage anyone any other game moving away from fandom
The older Fallout games would be amazing, particularly 1 and 2 that don’t have great wikis. Some of the more technical games like Factorio or Satisfactory that have lots of intricate parts would be amazing as well.
Cyberpunk. Unfortunately the only one that is up to date enough is the FANDOM one.
I know it’s not necessarily a gaming wiki, but I find it ridiculous that Wookipedia, the go-to source for lore on one of the biggest and most expensive franchises ever, is on Fandom. That being said, I don’t know if there’s any discussion in that community around moving
OSRS wiki is the pinnacle of perfect game wikis. Every game should strive to be as thorough and informative. Of course it’s thanks to you guys and the dedicated editors. Thanks
>What other wikis do you wish could get away?
Every single one of them.
You guys do an amazing job.
Any Souls game, since I’m pretty sure Fextralife is Fandom as well. Elden Ring is probably the most in-demand still.
yall doing godly work.
The Binding of Isaac and Terraria, and lately the Core Keeper fandom has been giving tons of predatory phishing popups
I just want to o say that while I’ve never heard of your efforts, I appreciate the hell out of them. I installed the Brave browser specifically because of Fandom.
Satisfactory needs to be moved off fandom.
I absolutely love The Long Dark, and yet I know so little about it because I refuse to use their Fandom wiki. In a way, it almost makes it a more enjoyable experience.
Kingdom Come Deliverance could do with a better wiki
Thank you for all the work you do!
All. Of. Them.
That site is trash.(fandom, to be clear)
Thank you for your work
how much cost every wiki to maintain ? hosting ? static ip ? bandwich used ?
if you use a third party hosting, instead of self hosting, wich one is it ? ( im interesed in start a proyect of old arcade games wiki for latinamerica, and looking for some good hosting )
thx in advance for the answer, and you are doing an amazing job, god bless you
Do you know if there’s a paid position doing something like this? And if so, what are some of the titles? Professional Wiki contributor? Just curious if there’s a market.
There are some really extensive wikis for the Final Fantasy games on Fandom. I recently replayed through all the mainline games and would love to see those move to a non-shitty platform.
Grounded, please, dear God it’s wiki is terrible.
This gacha game I play, Wuthering Waves, has a fandom wiki. I hate hate hate using it, especially since they’re doing the “random redirect to a popup virus warning” thing more and more.
No Man’s Sky
Hope LNF is off, by launch.
OSRS wiki might be the best game wiki I’ve ever seen.
I so badly wanted to contribute to the ETS2 wiki, but at the time didn’t know how to go through game files or do all that editing and cropping for pictures of cargo. If felt abandoned for a few years actually, but then it got updated at some point (which was 2019 I think).
But now I don’t play it as much anymore. :/
Literally every single one is a viable candidate. Fandom is utter trash and you’re doing gods work.
As a frequent user of the warframe wiki, and occasionally of the minecraft wiki, you people are seriously angels. Thank you so much.
You guys are heroes. Anyways the answer is “all of them”. TFB: total Fandom bankruptcy
Bioshock Wiki
Fandom was alright when it was wikia. One of the earliest game wikis on wikia (2006), now fandom was Aselia. Aselia is a *massive* wiki. If you visit it now, it’s so much more soulless boiler plate looking, but I think the community still tries, as it still has some care put into it. The tales community was small and passionate back in the day. I should probably try to get back in touch with them.
Owlcat games, bioware games, obsidian games, fire emblem, to name a few
Roblox, Genshin Impact, and Fortnite are games/topics with massive wikis that absolutely should be moved off from Fandom. Not that I edit those wikis, but still.
Most of the triple-A game wikis are still inside of Fandom, too. Could potentially even move off the Fandom GTA Wiki so that more documentation for GTA 6 can exist on the future independent wiki. It’s currently the most hyped up game yet, so I think having an independent wiki would be amazing. Could probably try to negotiate with CD Project Red onto hosting the Witcher and Cyberpunk wikis too, since they’re official.
There are also some notable game wikis that still haven’t moved out yet, like Valheim, Subnautica, Stellar Blade, Once Human, Hades, Slay the Spire, Gunfire Reborn, Kenshi, OMORI, Schedule 1, and more.
Also, not game wikis, but Wookieepedia and Memory Alpha have been suggested a lot too. Doctor Who Wiki already moved off, which is great, but it’d be nice to see more of these massive wikis move off, too.
I don’t think I can name any wikis that should leave the Fandom platform. Since I’m biased towards various features that are exclusive to the Fandom platform, such as the FandomDesktop skin.
One issue I do have with Fandom at the moment is that they still haven’t given Administrators back their ability to edit general messages in the MediaWiki namespace.
Even a MediaWiki namespace review process for non-whitelisted messages would be better than the way things are now.
