Remember when Intel was really the only logical CPU choice when building a PC?

And ignore the power supply, got not-so-stellar advice from a friend on how much power I actually needed.

Ah back when games only used 512×512, 1024×1024, 2048×2048 res textures and 2-4gb was enough for gaming

That PSU is “A” tier on SPL tier list, so while the wattage is hella overkill, at least you got a high quality PSU with high quality capacitors and safety mechanisms that actually work.

Next time you can buy the windows key for a few € as key and prepare a USB stick for the first boot 😉

A few dollars you can invest in a better PC part of your choice

Bet that SuperFlower is still out there somewhere running fine, haha.

I wish I had done this. I don’t have any pics of my first build 30 years ago. 😢

My first “Gamer” was the i7-4790k+GTX 980 EVGA ACX 2.0 plus my first SSD(game changer) 512GB Samsung 850 Evo …it was awesome at 1080p from 2014 through 2020.

That would have been amazing at the time. I wish I had pics of my first actual PC from 1991. Maybe I do somewhere. It was a custom build as well, as far as custom went in those days LOL.

    Classic 2014 combo there: 4790K, Hyper 212, Z97, GTX 980.

I went with a 5820K, stock cooler, X99, and GTX 970 though. I only replaced it last December.

  20. badger906

lol the fact that this is meant to be a “this was so long ago” and yet it’s got a 980 in the build..

  21. SoloWingPixy28

Shiii cuz I have the same mobo in my younger sister’s rig, she has a 1080Ti for the GPU, with a 4790K. My rig back in the day.

  22. neuromonkey

Heck, I remember when BIOS setup utilities weren’t resident in firmware. You had to boot from a setup disk.

  23. BtotheVV86

    I’m getting old. First pc I build had a K6-400MHz, 128MB RAM and a 12MB Voodoo2 hooked up to a 14-inch CRT monitor 😅
