This is one of those techniques they dont teach you

I figured it’s because the oils of your fingers react in a way that is not good for the paste.

I have done that with a sandwich bag between my finger and the paste.

  2. ExtremeBasis5697

A small plastic scraper does a better job…i don’t see bakers using their hands to spread the cream on the cake…

    Dont forget the remains!

  4. Lol paying millions per kilo or so for super duper paste … then mixing it with your body’s oils before application

  5. Swiftblinks_

I have switched to Thermal Grizzly KryoSheet and I will never go back to thermal paste.
You dont have to worry about life span of paste and it is a much cleaner job to do. Put the sheet and forget about it 🙂

  6. Early_Personality_68

Just to add, this is best done when the cpu is actively engaged in some kind of benchmarking so you know where the hotspots actually are and can apply the thermal paste exactly where it is most needed. Thank me later.

  7. Kennalol

Why stop at the finger, the body has applicator effective appendages .

  8. I_Stay_Home

Because I use a tiny spatula and a fine bristled antistatic brush.

  9. bluedancepants

I prefer the spit method. You put the thermal paste in your mouth and just spit on the cpu.

  10. i am using an old credit card to spread the paste.

  11. Beneficial-News-2232

I’m glad people finally invented the technique I’ve been using for decades 🤭

  12. passtiramisu

Actually this should be “glass method” because final spread was done by pressing a glass on thermal paste.

  13. KindleXIII

Just switch to phase change thermal pads. Same performance as best thermal paste, no pump out, easy to apply.

  14. Confident-Lie-8517

Expert PC builders: do not eat thermal paste (optional)

  15. jfernandezr76

IMC just because it’s difficult to remove from your hands, but I really think this is the superior method

  16. DomSchraa

Only recommended with the scented thermal pastes

The standard thermal paste tastes pretty bland

  17. SilverBr4in

yeah and after that you’ll have the silver surfer finger for one month. ask me how i know it

  18. jobewiy

holy shit I haven’t thought of this song in fucking years

  19. shuzz_de

I’ve always used my finger, but with a glove or, lacking that, some saran wrap.

  20. platdujour

I find the middle finger more effective

  21. PewterButters

I use the ‘finger method’ but i put a plastic bag over my finger and spread with that.

  22. KingHauler

That looks more like antiseize than it does thermal paste.

  23. DharMahn

is no one mentioning the upscaling artifacts on the video?

    that, or frame gen

  24. ch1nomachin3

    finger lickin’ good!

  25. klendool

wtf you just plonk a pea sized blob in the middle and let the heat sink spread it when you mount it, you don’t need to spread it around lol

  26. OfficialIntelligence

I remember watching LTT episode and I believe it was Luke that did a bunch of different methods and found the only thing that made a huge difference was using too much or too little that caused problems.

  27. RAMChYLD

Finger oil. Degrades the thermal paste and impedes performance.

  28. VonDinky

you have oils on your finger, you have now contaminated the surface and product being used. How much an affect it will have, I don’t know. Also you should probably clean your finger real good after that one. Probably not the healthiest stuff to consume. I remember one who did this. Since his fingers where not completely clean, it left scratches, and scratches ain’t good when you want the surface as flat and prestine as possible.

  29. sumatkn

I have always done it this way. In fact it’s one of the two ways everyone was told to do it(the second using a spreader/creditcard). The only difference was you used a plastic bag or medical gloves. Cause we aren’t regarded.

  30. melighted

i don’t think fingering the CPU is a good idea

  31. SafranSenf

Does not work with thicker pastes unfortunately. Although thinner pastes usually are as good as the thermal better ones that are thicker because the bridging layer is thinner when applied this way.

  32. GeovaunnaMD

if gloves then ok but now you have organic matter in there

  33. Zandonus

They do. I specifically remember my Jedi Master telling us this one. Perhaps with some jest in his voice, but nonetheless.

  34. specialforcez

Don’t do this. Your DNA gets fused to processor and there will be data of your consciousness to be harvested by AI. There will be eternal virtual clone of you screaming in binary.

  35. ChirpyMisha

I didn’t expect to see someone finger a CPU today

  36. Independent-Bake9552

This is how I do my application. Just put some plastic wrap around your finger so not to contaminate the paste with finger grease. Works like a charm.
