It’s 2025 & I’m still bemused at the mindlessness of some developers. Not having any save option or even a checkpoint system in a game in which you can easily spend 45-120mins on per mission is crazy.
I didn't even know (because i didn't think it was something i'd even have to check) until i was almost an hour into a mission but had to leave. How do you make a game in 2025 without a save option? No less an RTS which are time hoggers.
One of the big complaints I see about it in reviews and here on reddit and one of the main reasons I’m holding off. RTS games have offered this since the early 2000s, at least.

Sounds like shovelware meant to get money from unsuspecting players and make them pass the 2 hour return window.

Yeah played broken arrow for like 10 mins and was like “well, glad i didnt pay for this. Back to steel division i go”
Icy_Exchange3708
Graphics may improve, but the nostalgia of old school games remains unbeatable!
starterflipper
Yeah the game is hot garbage rn
First-Supermarket639
Long live the classics! They don’t make games like they used to.
Moos3-2
I removed it from my wishlist because of that. No way im buying a game that does that.
Maybe when the game is half price and its been added or modded in ill play.
The_Corvair
I’ve commented on this more than I think I would (as you say: How do you make a game in 2025 without a save option?).
And to be honest, it seems to not be on the radar of many reviewers and youtoubers, either. It happens altogether too often that I am intrigued by a game, and have to peruse *dozens* of reviews to even get info on the save system -or lack thereof.
Personally, I just skip games without unrestricted saving these days. I’m not getting younger, my time is limited, I have responsibilities that trump games, and no game will waste it any more than I allow it. So, if your game has no save function, that’s just a skip for me (and mere save points aren’t good enough, either, unless they’re so close together as to make them superfluous as a game mechanic; In which case, just gib at-will saving already).
Gardevoir_Best_Girl
What a horrid piece of shit game.

Just like 2025 fashion trends, gaming AI hasn’t aged well

That is wild. An RTS with no save function at all is a huge oversight. Hope they add one soon, I’ll be holding off on trying it until then

While I get the artistic intent bit, and it partially makes sense for the type of game…. it is a bit of an own goal not to have some kind of save or suspend function. Even if they don’t let you quick save on a “no save scumming” basis, which is totally fine, not being able to stop the game without leaving it running is a pain.
Golden-Owl
I know that every designer starts somewhere and makes mistakes (esp with school project games), but it’s next level bizarre to forget a “save game” function

I’m so over Broken Arrow. I’m in some subreddits for adjacent games and the number of “SO THIS IS WHY YOUR GAME SUCKSS PLAY BROKEN ARROW” posts that show up that are…obviously not very well done guerilla marketing is annoying.
Like I’ll play your stupid game if it runs right and plays good, not you shitting on things I already enjoy. This is just another reason for me to pass on it.
Blakelock82
This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I think every game needs to have a save anytime system. Every game. I mean, technology has advanced so far that this can easily be done. I’m at a point in my life where there are times I can’t do long play sessions and not being able to just save anytime is annoying. It’s also the reason why I skip out on longer games that don’t have this feature.
horizon_games
People buying a game the first week it comes out are wild to me
RegicidalRogue
an asmon stan complaining about not having a save feature to make the game more easy. sounds about right
Takeasmoke
main reason i can’t play remnant 2, any time i have to leave while in middle of an area i have to replay it all over again
Empyre47AT
I had to leave my SNES on overnight for several nights to beat Jurassic Park because there is no save feature at all. Not even a password system. It was a fun game, but what the hell? lol The system even hard-locked during one attempted play through. Talk about irritating.
FlamingGnats
Any game that doesn’t have a manual save option doesn’t respect your time.
Guy4123123
Not even a restart mission button. Gotta return to title screen and go through all the pre mission shit again.
I’ve enjoyed the game play itself enough but it’s missing some extremely basic QoL things that any game should have at minimum.
matteblatte
yes, awful sir
Hanako_Seishin
This game isn’t made for you, or me, or any sane people. Target audience for these games loves such shit. Here singleplayer is seen as a tutorial for multiplayer at best, and even then any self-respecting RTS fan skips it because only noobs need tutorials. Thus here it teaches you to play without saving like you would in multiplayer. And this isn’t even an ordinary RTS, it’s a wargame, it’s all about hardcore realism. No saving, no pause, die in game and you die in real life type of shit is making them extatic.
Rukasu17
It’s 2025 and games not pausing when you run out of batteries on your controller is not the default. There’s some basic stuff we’ve yet to reach for some obscure reason.
Stonkey_Dog
I refuse to play games that don’t respect your time. What you described is an excellent example.
rose636
And this is why I stopped playing Pacific Drive. The mechanics didn’t interest me much as it was, but the fact that I couldn’t save anywhere and had to finish my 1 hour+ run each time? Nah
theleifmeister
I’ve already moved back to WARNO
Training-Virus4483
This game doesn’t seem to be living up to its hype
leerzeichn93
If you want to play singleplayer or coop, why not play Warno? It looks better, is cheaper, has almost no bugs anymore. It already has some additional DLCs with more singleplayer content too.
r3nj064
also keep in mind this game is from a russian developer and the map ingame shows ukraine as part of RuZZia…
On the other hand you can HIMARS the living shit out of russian units in this game.
djammalle
Broken Arrow more like Broken Save System.
MC_Hale
Currently having the same frustration with Blue Prince. Mid-game runs are easily over an hour with no saving.
