I was rlly scared to try and change it bc you have to open the keyboard to acces the hardwares so i just thought i would send it to a shop and ask them to install it and change the thermal paste, but i wasnt sble to go out for some time

So instead i bit the bullet and did it myself, it was pretty easy but it was rlly scary handling all those hardware for the first time.

I thought to myself that i broke it 10 different times

Sorry for the low quality picture, my phone camera is rlly bad. Also sorry for any misspellings and typos, i was rlly excited so i kind of rushed it a bit

Also if you were wondering what laptop this is, its an asus X455LJ. And no i didn’t change the thermal paste yet, when i go to a tech shop im asking them to replace it

You saved money and learned a new skill in the process. It’s always good to be careful with pc hardware. but with some research, it’s an amazing feeling to be able to do it yourself.

good job dude! sometimes unrealistic confidence also helps. research about things before to gain knowledge about all the different possibilities. it will give you some clarity and prepare you to perform with confidence. not just with PCs but anything else.

    Good job!

I built my first pc from scratch a month ago, and I was terrified for the whole process

Turns out it’s lego for nerds

People might make fun of you, ignore them.

We all start somewhere, and i am happy for you.

You might eventually break something, it can happen, I wouldn’t stress much over it but still take precautions.

I mean, I’ve been doing stuff for like 20 years, and few days ago i had to open my laptop to change its wifi antennas, i was also pretty scared because it involved opening everything up, even unscrewing the hinges and open up the lid and take out the screen.

I did it fine, it involved swearing, and well, one of hinges wasn’t screwed in properly but i am not opening that shit again, need some cooldown lol.

Anyhow, it’s good you did it yourself. Learning to do stuff is always nice, and you saved some money.

Changing thermal paste shouldn’t be hard either.
I recommend you Arctic MX4, it’s what i consider the best from the cheapest.

Just be careful with it, don’t just yank it out of there as soon as you remove the screws, just jiggle it until it comes out slowly.

And when you screw it back in, make sure you put the screws properly, it needs to make proper contact.
And you should use isopropyl alcohol for cleaning the old paste.

Other cool stuff you could do would be to replace your wifi card with a better one if your laptop allows, upgrade the ram.

(Also, i thought i broke my laptop 10 times when i replaced the antennas. Fear is natural when we’re handling our “babies” :p)

GG! Well done! There’s a first time for everything. I hope you will try again if the opportunity arises

Next step, buy all the hardware for a custom PC with all aftermarket watercooling tied into an out of case water chiller. Then fine tune those overclocks to the red line.

Once you’re finished with that, go back to the laptop or standard PC with aircooling because it’s crazy to maintain. 🤣

Good job. With an external sata to USB adapter, you wouldn’t even have to reinstall the windows, it’s possible to mirror one disk to another.

Feels good though doesn’t it? Swapping the hard drive for an SSD on an old laptop is one of the best ways to make it feel better than new again.
