Running my PS1 to a Vizio smart TV with standard composite (AV) cables. Not sure if you can tell but the picture is a little blurry, the text especially makes me feel like I'm wearing glasses. Is there a more optimal way to connect to the TV (like an AV to HDMI adapter), or is the technology gap between console and TV too great? I've tried adjusting the display modes (normal, wide, panoramic, zoom) and those just make it worse.

I pushed through it for FFVII and I'm prepared to do the same here, but figured I'd ask around anyway.

  1. Older consoles were not made with modern televisions in mind. You really need a CRT.

ideally you should be pluggin ur ps1 into the display it was designed for, which would be a consumer crt tv. besides that, you might get a better picture using an av to hdmi converter, tho if you go that route, make sure its powered.

Just use an emulator on a laptop. You own the console and the game anyway, perfectly legal. Use a controller on the laptop and use an hdmi on whatever tv

I use a retrotink 5x with RGB cables from retrogamingcables, and the quality is wonderful. it’s a bit expensive, but it’s an option. You can get some cheaper retrotink clones on aliexpress but I’m not sure how the quality would be.

Edit: here’s what it looks like [https://i.imgur.com/pxET3av.jpeg](https://i.imgur.com/pxET3av.jpeg)

There’s a company that sells devices that solve this problem. They aren’t cheap but they are very good. It’s called a Retrotink. You don’t have to get the really expensive one. They have a Retrotink mini for $99 USD that will probably give you a great looking picture on any modern TV. Of course the more expensive ones are more powerful and do some amazing things.

Maybe play on a ps2 with red green blue connection. That might clear it up a lot.

Just play it through an emulator like OpenEmu. They also have CRT filters and scanlines if you really want the retro-feel.

All of that and you couldn’t include that this is Star Ocean 2.
Also, it might be that the screen is too big.
You only have so many pixels to stretch.
I use an old 24 inch 4:3 flatscreen monitor to play my PS2 and it looks pretty good.

Maybe you need to increase sharpness and get rid of any “smart” processing features that are still turned on
