Now u gotta drive over reinstall windows, set up a completely new account for him, then he does it again, and says he doesn’t want it anymore and wants a refund.

Not your problem. You didn’t sell it with any training included.
This is why I deactivate Windows and wipe it, and just say “no OS installed.”
I’m selling the hardware, not tech support. (And I get to keep my Windows license, save $100).
Although, I now prefer to keep my SSDs because I know how solid state storage works and there’s no way I’m giving those away.

Here’s some backstory – I build and sell pcs for a profit. Every pc comes with a windows account with nothing on it and no pin so i can have every driver and the RGB software preinstalled on the pc. Every time I booted up the computer at home no pin was needed and it would skip through this part so not sure what he or I messed up

Format ssd and reinstall windows

God yall are dickheads. I was able to walk him through it and get it fixed

Had to replace my Motherboard recently, and Windows locked access to my account and required 1 step Authentication, or a login whilst connected to the Internet.
My WiFi adapter was disabled for some reason and I can’t ethernet to my router. Long story short, Safe Mode with networking didn’t work.
Luckily ChatGPT helped me modify the “accessibility” icon on the login page, to instead open an administrator CMD window, then, instructed me how to add an administrator account to use temporarily 😅

Well he’s trying to use your Windows license. Tell him to get his own.

I have that error with virtual machines sometimes. I think disabling internet and maybe a restart should fix it

Sucks to be him. Not your problem.

When I sold a laptop, I put a clean install on it, installed updates and drivers and left it in OOBE for the new owner to set it up.

Or say there CPU over heats yet has no cooler.
Or ask about a power lead for a PSU.

Doesn’t help this time but, it’s easier if you setup Windows in audit mode so you can install the drivers and etc, then run sysprep so they get the out of box setup upon boot. After that, it’s not your problem since it’ll force them to setup a MS account if Windows 11. If they are smart enough to bypass that, also not your problem since they are at least savvy enough to do that.

Easiest way to remove windows… just install windows on usb and go in instsller and delete the drive lmao. Thats it. Then exit usb installer once drive is deleted. No need for special bios to clear m.2 drive or software.
I remember back in the days i was overthinking how to wipe pc and never thought abt the windows installer thing till recently 💀

Sucks to be him. If it was working the last time you touched it then it’s something on his end. Hopefully he’s just unlucky and not trying to scam you. If I had an issue like this I wouldn’t be contacting the person who sold it to me, what are they gonna do?
I had the same crap happen a few times on my LOCAL windows account. How or why did it happen I still have no idea
DescryGG
The guy locked himself out lmao.

I’d say there’s a high chance he has swapped something out of the computer for something old he has, and now is just trying to get a way for you to go there and refund him for his money.
Fuck it, time for him to learn how to flash a new Windows image.
It’s 2025, we’ve got tons and tons of resources online and even AI could literally guide you all the way.
I’d say this seems like his problem.

No need to reinstall the OS.
Look for sticky keys method windows 11 (or 10, depends on what you use).

Forgot to wipe the HDD?

You should have wiped the drives. On the other hand he should be able to reinstall windows so no biggie.
LightBeerIsForGirls
Just because you sold him a computer doesn’t mean you’re offering tech support for the next three years.
Mineplayerminer
While you can fix the profile to be working again through some registry and file magic using the recovery, you should’ve wiped the drive before handing out the PC.
