Was taking a dump at work and started a new Pokemon Black playthrough. Professor Juniper’s Minccino in the intro was shiny, the first and only shiny I’ve ever seen in my life over thousands of hours since gen 1. This is beyond ridiculous.

I once played a rom hack of Fire Red and the first wild encounter before I could get pokeballs were a shiny.

Saw a shiny once about 20 years ago in pokemon crystal. Didnt know what it was at the time so killed it like an absolute moron

Playing games and taking a dump on company time is the purest joy.

Thousands of hours without a shiny… how does that even happen lol

Are npc trainers pokemon locked to never be shiny? I always thought it would be cool if the odds were the same for npcs. Like after hundreds of runs all the sudden Lance has a shiny dragonite or something.

I’ve played since gen 1 release – i even have had PokeRus multiple times and I *just* got my first wild shiny pokemon in violet – a masquerain at the very end of the game.

That was a DS title, right? Does the emulator (I’m assuming on your phone) have full functionality of the bottom touch screen? I never actually played black or white. The last was probably diamond/pearl, but I remember the touch screen functions being somewhat needed throughout the game. Just curious how well it works in an emulator.

The first and I believe only shiny I saw was in FireRed on victory road, it was a geodude, first move it used was selfdestruct

Ah yes, the mid-dump shiny professor pokemon

I’ve seen a couple shines but my first was a ditto I encountered in crystal, I was going to name them blutac but I was on my way back to a pc to change boxes because my current one was full so the game wouldn’t let me throw a ball. Took me until the diamond pearl remakes to shiny chain hunt a new ditto. So glad blutac came back.

I guess I didn’t realize that I’ve found 3 in various games but didn’t think they were all that big of a deal? I think I have one on my gold cart.

First shiny I ever encountered was a Makuhita in Ruby. It knew whirlwind ……….you can guess what happened next.

This reminds me of the time I started a new game of OG diamond, pearl or platinum I don’t recall which, and that intro starly fight was a shiny. I was pissed.

I got a shiny Steelix. It was gold.

Thats pretty unlucky, given the full odds of finding a shiny are 1/4096 (or 1/8192 in the earlier generations).
Outside of shiny hunting in the 3DS games, I have had three full-odds shinies. Thankfully none of them could use self destruct, roar or teleport!

I remember playing Silver and my friends and I would shiny hunt, when I finally came across my first shiny. It was a Magikarp. I remember being so disappointed that the first shiny I find was the most boring pokemon in the game, so I just knocked him out and went on hunting. It was later I learned that they keep their shiny status when they evolve. I could have had a shiny Gyarados!!

My first one ever was like 5 years ago. A fucking Stunfisk…

Same thing happened to me and Wally getting a shiny Ralts.

Bro I found my first shiny in years of playing Pokemmo a couple months ago, and it was a lvl5 Geodude. I was playing with a friend and my exact reaction was “Huh, a shiny Geodude” captured him and he’s now a core part of my team. WHY THO, WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE A GEODUDE OF ALL POKEMON.

Maybe you missed gen 2 then, because it had a red gyarados that you were bound to see if you played the story far enough.

Caught a shiny pidgey in Pokémon gold when I was 8 and I’ve been chasing that high ever since
FaxCelestis
I bet I’ve seen some shinies in my time, but since I’m fucking colorblind I probably didn’t notice.
Didact67
Don’t you have to fight a shiny Gyarados in Gold & Silver as part of the story?
