It sold 1 mil units in 24 hours, so half of its sales in its first day.
Its lower than I expected considering FF16 sold 3 mil units in its first week while only being on one console, Expedition 33 and Stellar Blade (also exclusive to one console at launch) are also new IP and both sold 3 mil units
Nayko214
Still good for a new IP from the publisher overall.
Raven_of_Blades
That’s really low for Persona 5.5.
iselphy
I never got the game but at this point I’m a little tired of the typical Altus/Persona style. When P3 first came out it was so stylish and unique. Now the style is not new anymore and it feels like the same each time.
Rambodius
Played the demo. Enjoyed it but for some reason did not feel compelled to buy the game. Think it had to do with the demo length. It was long. Longer than any demo I had played before. Generous but I think it worked against them in my case. Felt like I had my fill.
Erthan-1
I loved my time with this game. I am looking forward to any future sequels.
Spacewok
The game felt unfinished in a lot of ways, relatively empty map, not a lot of activities, but the story and characters were by far my favorite from Atlus. The ending and reveals are incredible.
Luke_sein_Vater
I’d buy it in an instant if Atlus would announce the game is finished and no DLC will come. So far nothing but silence. I like to wait till I know for sure I get the full experience.
TrentIsDope
Besides Astro Bot, this was my favorite game of last year. Felt like adult persona and the combat system was really fun.
y2kbsm
it would do well as a switch 2 game. always surprised how hesitant atlus is towards switch but we’re finally starting to get more
chaotikz7
Bring it to switch 2 you cowards!
CaptainCobraBubbles
Put it on Switch 2 and I bet it’ll hit 3 million
Normal_Toe1212
the game is quite challenging for a jrpg so is perceived as being quite hardcore. i know there’s difficulty setting but not sure if people who’s into jrpgs and can usually beat them on normal setting enjoys having to play any games on easy.
parnso
Serious question.
Is this good? Is this bad?
I can’t really fathom these numbers.
ExcelIsSuck
this game was soooo good. Gameplay wise it was like persona 5 but better and story wise it was super good
Iggy_Slayer
It’s crazy how low most jrpgs sell outside of pokemon and FF, and then people over praise these 1-2m results in an age where they’re releasing on almost every platform under the sun.
kemar7856
I loved the game I did two playthroughs which is unheard of once I finish a game I usually don’t touch it again
lars_rosenberg
I would have expected bigger sales numbers, but 2 millions isn’t bad.
I’m playing Metaphor right now on Game Pass, I’m 27 hours in and I am enjoying it so far, even if it has some glaring issues.
I tried Persona 3 Reloaded first and I didn’t like it, but the setting of Metaphor has intrigued me since the very beginning and now that I’m playing the game I think Atlus did a really good job in world building.
I recognize that basically all mechanics are ported from Persona, but the story and the world the game is set in are closer to my taste.
fernandogod12
So a niche game like all personas
IAmScrewedAMA
Hey guys, is it true this game gets slower and tedious in the later half? I want to buy it, but I’m worried I’ll be outside the refund window when I hit the supposed slower/tedious half of the game
Potential-Sky3479
Game was decent but not creative. I would consider deltarune more creative
icedteaandtacos
It was good enough but it got so far up it’s own ass by the end.
Gontha
Good. Now port the rerefanazio with the usual additional content finally to Switch 2!
I refuse to play the first iterations of atlus games and on non portable consoles.
Most_Caregiver3985
Not bad overall, but action rpgs are still superior all around
Leolang99
I knew it flopped since japan, china and korea disliked it but LOL. I was expecting atleast 2.5 million. Being arguably the jrpg with most marketing budget by far(hell, in china there were huge jack frosts holding metaphor ads in a lot of places, japan had a lot of places filled with posters, and everywhere i went on the web there were ads for it) plus the almost 10 year development time, i would be surprised if the game manages to be profitable. Also with it being permanently discounted in a lot of places after 3 months, plus then kneeling to gamepass less than a year after release(like dragon age veilguard, a “flop” according to people here, which also also had a higher player count in steam), it 100% underperformed. Plus merch sales are low, so i bet 10$ studio zero will be closed in 3 years and (hopefully) everyone there is fired, else atlus might go bankrupt again, this time taking poor sega with them.
Responsible_Law3761
That seems extremely low for the hype surrounding it. Currently playing it right now after it finally came to Game Pass, I like it but the calendar system is kinda killing it
Anotherspelunker
Once they announce it for Switch 2 it will sell another million copies… Atlus, just make sure it includes a physical release
Berkuts_Lance_Plus
Why does the character in the image have homophobia in his eyes?
osound
After playing Clair Obscur and loving it to 100% completion, I thought “maybe I do actually like turn-based games.”
This game just confirmed to me that Clair Obscur was an anomaly for me.
Utterly despised running out of MP in dungeons, having to go back and rest, and then having time limits to do side quests. The plot in Metaphor was also so full of predictable anime tropes and one-dimensional characters that it became exhausting.
I noped out after dealing with those Spektos enemies that just put curses on my party and was immune to most types of damage. Just wasn’t a fun experience to play. Just my two cents. Not a lot of strategy apparent to me beyond loading up on items that healed curses and other effects, and trying to save MP where possible. Dull.
If someone genuinely enjoys turn-based JRPGs and enjoys traditional anime narratives, then they’ll probably enjoy Metaphor. Certainly wasn’t for me though. I see reviews praise how they handled the concept of societal discrimination/racism, but I didn’t see anything unique about it at all. Generic fish out of water story with predictable, annoyingly morally righteous side characters.
The fact that most people say the section I played — the first 10 hours — is the best part is what made me stop and uninstall.
daminion72
I loved the idea of a “fantasy persona”and enjoyed my time with the game and mechanics.
But the story was milktoast. If we get a second one I really hope that they improve the writing.
