There’s much to admire about rain. His raw aim, crosshair placement, calmness, longevity, and consistency. However, many people seem to believe his Antwerp Major performance is typical, even though he consistently achieves around a 1.05 rating. While this is solid, it’s not as exceptional as some portray him to be. This makes me wonder: why is he so very highly regarded? I’d love to hear your opinions and thoughts on rain. I think he’s a good player, but just good, not great.

Because he’s a stone cold solid and loyal player with tons of aura

Great movies and shows need some great and consistent sidekicks

    Like Rollo in Vikings

    That’s Rain

In a world of teenage skin gamblers, having a highly consistent father with rock solid aim on your roster is worth a lot.

  4. Floripa95

Well he’s highly regarded because he rarely drops horrible performances on the big stage, being consistently “OK” for so many years is good enough to create a reputation. And that is only judging crude stats, he probably is a great teammate who helps keep the team centered with his calmness.

Plus the man has probably the best Deagle skills on the planet, top 3 at minimum

  5. Nicknack4818

Cold and calm. Makes the plays when it matters. Stone cold in the clutch. Loyal to the game and the people he plays with. If you watch Karigans vlogs or Faze’s videos from CS. He never misses.

  6. DankMemeRipper1337

He is solid since he started playing. Ever since joining Faze he has played every role imaginable and was a solid +1.0 rating player. Even if he has a horrible map, he will bounce back on the next one. I admire players like him, who put their whole ego on the back burner and play for the team’s success.

Add to that that Rain barely had any stable line up behind him on Faze, as well as having Niko as IGL for some time. But boy oh boy, every other game he has one of those performances, where he just obliterates one of the top teams and carries Faze to a victory.

I watch a lot of rain demos. He consistently makes smart decisions lightning fast.

Has incredible quiet sneaky style and is also able to take aggressive roles/play unorthodox weapons and spots. Has explosivity in high pressure moments.

Teaches you some new tricks every demo.

Couple all that with very smooth aim – the way he shoots was inspiring for me Calm and clean.

I don’t think you’ll understand respect rain has by looking at stat sheet.

  8. He locks in during playoffs which is a huge factor. Big stage chokers are no fun to watch

  9. ZeffoLyou

He makes plays when they matter. Even if it’s a losing round he can destroy the economy of the other team. A lot of rains impact over the years isn’t something that is easily tracked. He’s the Norwegian Naf

  10. you gave the main reasons;

    > His raw aim, crosshair placement, calmness, longevity, and consistency.

he’s been able to “hold that line” for years, which is remarkable. Like you said he is very calm and composed, which is something you seek among teammates.

  11. Swagical_Tacos

Rain is a man of focus, commitment and sheer fucking will. That’s all you need to know.

  12. CravingKoreanFood

He’s been playing for so long now. Hes so experienced and doesn’t make mistakes. It’s like any classic championship veteren on a sports team. They may not wake up for the random Sunday game but when its big stakes game he will be ready

  13. SwantanamoJ42

Along with the player he is I also admire that’s he was on the first international super team made at Kinguin that went to G2 and went to Faze….tons of roster moves around him yes but he’s basically been loyal to his team for over a decade now.

  14. Stability is what you want in a team player, if you always perform you know what you can expect.

The best team mates in every sports are those who always deliver.

Also he seems to be well liked by his mates, no matter the changes, being a good dude always helps

  15. Slender718

He is your favourite player’s favourite player

  16. I think it’s because he never complains, always does what’s best for the team and is an important player for team chemistry.

  17. Chocolate_Skull

    Uncs still got it.

Kids come onto the pro scene forgetting that these guys have been there, done that, rains a great example – hell the whole Faze lineup is – of older guys who prove time and again that experience trumps talent.
People shit on rains performance this tournament forgetting that he’s not the star player, he’s there to get s1mple in position.

  18. I think that a lot of times he is one of the main reasons that Faze win a match, he just consistently has impact on the game

I remember watching rain on g2 1v5ing a fucking stacked envyus roster in 2015 on cache. Even then his reaction was stoic straight face. That was my introduction to rain, ever since I’ve thought he’s a fucking badass and he’s never proven otherwise lol, guy just has that aura.

As many others have been saying, consistency is massive and Rain truly has displayed it in a way like no other for a very long time:

He’s been on the same “team” since the Kinguin->G2 days with Maikelele/Scream, countless other names throughout the years many of who are basically retired people in the CS-scene today.

That was a reasonably solid team near Tier 1 level right from the start too – I can’t think of many times since then in CS history that Kinguin-G2 into Faze team wasn’t competitive/near the top of CS.

So Rain has been doing it at a reasonably high performance at a high level that entire time. Also shows how well liked he is or how well he can work with many different teammates as he wasn’t removed from any of these teams at any time while they’ve cycled through players.

Lastly in addition to the last bit, Rain is very popular amongst really smart/good pros in history. He’s played with some directly (Olof, Niko, Guardian, Coldzera, etc) but also Flusha and many of the old legendary Fnatic team (JW, etc) said he was someone they wanted to get multiple times to secure a more stable roster and deals fell through. Obviously now everyone knows s1mple is very clearly a fan of Rain saying he is a major reason Sasha made the move to Faze rn. I think that kinda respect from peers really speaks to why Rain is so highly regarded and his history in CS is clear, even if he’s not always been the flashiest.

  21. he’s consistent, even on his “bad” games he’s not holding the team back and to be able stay this consistent for this many years is impressive in its self

  22. SnooRegrets2168

dudes wicked smart and a genuine human being that is kind hearted and nice…..there is no malice in that body whatsoever. Calm and collected always. Never plays his own life unless its required. Just a great teammate

  23. he’s been the most consistent player for 10+ years, if he wasn’t always on a roster with other star players, he would be the star player. he outshines all other players on the server regularly, and he is humble af. good guy rain.

  24. Responsible_Lead7140

    Iem cologne 2022

    rain vs simple on mirage
Every step was meticulous, down to the wire, he was playing with the GOAT’s head

  25. Regarded? Dude that’s offensive some might even say global offensive.

  26. GeneralP123

He’s overall very good in everything, nice aim, fast thinking and reactions, possibly the strongest mental fortitude, the man is never tilted.

  27. madDamon_

Besides what everyone pointed out already is his calmness and never (visibly) panicking. I mean why would you not want someone like rain in your team?

  28. He isn’t a stats player ever, just consistently good and puts himself in position to make big impact. Some times it doesn’t work but cs isn’t who can get the best hltv rating and reducing a player to a single metric no matter how nuanced doesn’t tell the whole story.

  29. Stats won’t tell you that he’ll never make boneheaded mistakes that straight up lose you games. His fundamentals, game knowledge, and experience are next to the other best in the game.

  30. He’s the longest standing player in the roster and you’re bringing up ratings lol

  31. There is a reason why rain has never been benched by any roster ever. People still struggle to understand that this is a team-game and that some players activate the players around them. On top of that rain is a big-match player.
