I just upgraded my main monitor to an OLED and now I’ve got an extra monitor lying around. I was thinking about going for a triple-monitor setup by adding it vertically but there isn't any space.

I’m debating whether it’s worth moving the PC to the floor for another monitor. I wouldn’t get a huge benefit from a third monitor, but it’d be cool to have the extra screen real estate for no good reason.

Would you move your PC to the floor (probably on a stand to keep airflow/dust in mind) just to make room for a third monitor you don’t strictly need? Or would you just store/sell the spare monitor instead?

Curious what you guys would do in this situation.

  1. I have my gaming computer and server on the floor and it doesn’t get much more dust than on the desk and I have cats & dogs.

I used to be one of those nerds crying about having computers on the floor when I was younger before I learned how to properly clean a house.

I would never put my PC on my desk in the first place.

So – yes – I would move it.

My PC is on an IKEA side table that was less than $10. I’m sure equally cheap solutions are available if you don’t have an IDEA.

Mine’s on the floor with some rubber mats under it, though I may consider the rolling plank thingy. I have 2 work laptops so I need all the desk real estate.

  4. Nah. 3+ monitors is too much monitor and looks bad to me.

    1 uw+1 portrait is where it’s at

Do you need a 3rd monitor? Does it bother you on the desk? If any answer is yes, then move it.
I’ve had it in both locations and there is no difference

Mine is on the floor so I can have room for my 4 monitors

Buy a table for the PC. I bought a rectangular nightstand thing that almost looks like it was designed for a PC, the tabletop is an inch wider and longer than my PC and has a cabinet at the bottom for misc PC stuff like extra cables, printer paper, and controllers/batteries/card reader. When I got mine it was $40, not the best quality but looks nice and stable enough for a PC.

I have three monitors. I make use of them and have my desktop on the floor.

    I would go for it.

Just make the vain pictures for social media and after that put your pc out of the way for real productivity

If it were a plain Jane tower, yes. If you spent a bunch of money on RGB and etc then no.

    Floor equals much more dust.
Dust equals covered heatsinks, so thermal throttling eventually.

I put mine on the floor on an acrylic monitor stand

Only a child puts their pc on the desk lol

I have a stand from Amazon. On the floor, I don’t need the room I just don’t want my computer on my desk. Less clutter is best for me

  15. I’d either move it to a floor, or mount it to the wall with adequate protection to prevent falling in case of earthquake; mount shelf brackets to studs, bolt the shelf down, use earthquake straps to secure the computer.

Imo, I would keep the spare monitor as back up as sometimes a monitor gives no warning when it claps out. If you don’t have a purpose for a third monitor I wouldn’t bother. Your GPU will thank you in the foreseeable future 🤣.

What monitor on the left is that and why is it so square?

By the way, one thing people don’t seem to realize with PCs on the desk is that the fans are blowing chemicals directly into your face and then you breathe it in. That’s not a good thing. Always put your PCs on the floor.

Not sure how the side of your desk looks, but if you go that route, get something to at least get it a foot or two off the floor. I had a desk once where I was able to just drill 2x 1 inch holes through it and put some long bolts I got from home depot, and just attatched my tower to that. Worked pretty well.

You can get a little wheel cart made to keep it up off the floor a couple inches. Recommended

  20. I would never but I don’t like triple dust in my electronics. Buy a side table and plop it on there. I’d love to hear and see what you end up doing! 🙂

  21. get a second table or stand never put your PC on the floor

  22. amorpheous

Waste of space. It should never have been on the desk to start with.

I honestly find it hard to believe most people have an actual need for more than 2 monitors.
