im not sure that is the intended use

Think i still have some old IDE interface Maxtor drives that are around 18-20 years old. They still work just doesn’t make sense to use them on something modern with them being so slow and small in storage space..

I have an HDD I bought in 2010 that’s still somehow running with zero errors, right next to another one I bought in 2011 that also has zero errors. At this point I am just curios as to when they will kick the bucket.

My 2012 Toshiba 2tb was murdering itself. Lasted 10 tho

My HDD is like 15 years old now and in a 3rd rig already. Still going strong but rn it’s a 3rd drive and basically just a backup for photos and stuff and some non demanding games I play rarely.

Now THATS the kind of recycling I can get behind

I love the sounds one can make with a HD platter.

I really thought you were. 😂

I have a 320GB Samsung HDD manufactured before it’s drive division was sold to Toshiba.

It’s still working to this day without a bad block.

The first HDD I ever bought was a 120MB IDE, no I don’t use that anymore…

If counts, i still use magnets out of 1Gb hdd

Man I was staring at the first picture for a minute trying to figure out how you used a hdd to make coffee for 13 years

I felt as if millions of 1000101 suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

What is the total uptime/runtime on the drive though? It should be available as running hours from S.M.A.R.T.

I have a NAS running 24×7 and my last drive got replaced at 5.5 years running. It hadn’t completely failed yet but was throwing errors.

I have an external that’s 18 years old and still functional. Data’s been backed up for ages, but it refuses to die. Old 250 GB Seagate.

  15. Mecca_Lecca_Hi

That’s funny, but made me realize I probably have old HDDs well over twice as old as that in a box somewhere

  16. MPThreelite

What about the magnets ? Should put those on the fridge

  17. GetRektGGGoodbye

HDD : why don’t you just let me go?

  18. Falkenmond79

I have drives in my pcs now that are older and still working. 😂

  19. lokisHelFenrir

I still use 13yo hard drive for non load intensive games and media.

  20. Open_Importance_3364

My Seagate ST3295A @ 272.7MB from ’94 still boots ms dos and plays games. If it had SMART it would probably show some magnetic dementia I guess… ~~Good~~ times with editing autoexec.bat and config.sys. I had to choose between loading the cd rom driver or playing Duke Nukem 3D 😅

  21. draweder

I should open my old hdd to get an advanced spinning cup holder too!

  22. pferrazpt

You can even catch Charmander with it! Nice!

  23. AhmedA44

My external HDD corrupting my data and being slow and old 🥲, barely 6 or 7 years old

  24. JagjitSR

I work hard to support my ….?
Either way a nice cup to start the day.
