I’ve been playing CoD since the MW2/BO1 days and lately I’ve been thinking about what actually made the older games feel so special. The pacing, maps, gunplay — everything just had more soul to it.
I finally sat down and made a video where I break down my thoughts on why OG CoD hit different compared to what we get now.
Would love to know if anyone else feels the same? And if anyone’s gone back and played the old CoDs recently.
I’ve linked the video if you’re curious — open to any feedback too

When looking at the pacing of older games, today’s cod players (not the ones who did play those older games) are going to say that those games are milsim lol
Those old games were so much better, you could feel that the devs had passion developing those games, but now its just a rehash of the same thing, trying to appeal to the tiktok dopamine rush, mirco transactions everywhere (looks like a mobile game with things flashing left and right), …
Facts
Shorter cutscenes or none at all during missions (little to no interruptions during gameplay)
Military aesthetic and feel
Hans zimmer and Lorne Balfe cinematic orchestra
Straightforward story
Iconic characters being badass soldiers
Believable combat dialogue
I honestly think CoD really went downhill when they introduced the Call of Duty HQ thing. These games dont even feel like seperate products anymore – it’s all just overpriced DLC
It all went downhill with black ops Cold War they should have continued supporting Mw19 instead
