Microsoft Confirms They Will Continue To Make Traditional Backwards Compatible First Party Consoles (Not A PC Hybrid With Steam) Enters New Multi-Year Partnership With AMD

Uh, that’s not at ALL what they said. They said that the future device will have full BC, that’s it.

  2. It would not make **any financial** sense to release a platform who’s primary a pc and can install 3e party pc stores.

If you really want to take a bite out of Sony there are better ways then destroying whatever you previously build.

  3. I mean neat but how do they plan on selling the thing? They’re kind of a massively distant third place right now and its not even close. Backwards Compatibility is great if you’re already super into that ecosystem; but without true killer app exclusives (their studio acquisitions haven’t panned out for the most part) and everything going to PC/Playstation anyway there kind of is no reason to get one no matter how good it is.

    >Not A PC Hybrid With Steam

That’s not what this mean. The partnership with AMD is probably to ensure that the console has Steam, Battlenet ecc. while also getting the full BC library without licensing problems due to emulation. In the description they specifically say “not tied to a single Store”

Why would they do the Steam thing for a handheld but not the main console? Seems like an odd choice.

  6. _sharpmars

But they said that it’s ”not locked to a single store” in the video?

  7. Zombienerd300

This doesn’t confirm or disconfirms anything regarding third party stores. It’s still up in the air on whether it will happen or not. We still have to wait and see.

  8. lol the Xbox runs a highly modified version of windows; tf they talking about no hybrids.

  9. Lightstar34

OK? I think I stick to Nintendo and PC next gen . I don’t see any reason why i should invest in a new Xbox since I am not deep in Microsoft ecosystem imo

I don’t think that’s all that was said. I think your title isn’t quite accurate OP.

‘Consoles’.. Just please learn from the X/S debacle.

  12. velocipus

How do you get that from this video? It’s the opposite.

Not locked to a SINGLE STORE or one device…to ensure that WINDOWS is the number one platform for gaming.”

How does anyone get a traditional console vibe from this?

  13. CrawlerSiegfriend

Hopefully no more budget versions that devs have to struggle to support.

  14. The title and what they said doesn’t match very well

  15. Sensational5200

Your title is clearly misleading, as other commenters have noted. It contradicts with Microsoft’s past statements regarding accessibility of other storefronts on Xbox and what was actually discussed in the article.

“This is all about building a gaming platform that’s always with you, so you can play your games across devices and anywhere you want. Delivering an Xbox experience designed for players — not locked to a single store or tied to one device. That’s why we are working closely with the Windows team to ensure that Windows is the number one platform for gaming. The next generation of Xbox is coming to life. And this is just the beginning. We can’t wait to show you what’s next.”

It has been the norm since X360.

This feels like an announcement made to investors rather than actual gamers

  17. Awesome! And idiots thought Xbox consoles were ending lol

  18. As long as they keep releasing their titles on PlayStation, I won’t need to buy a new Xbox. Series X will be my last one, I believe.

  19. FernandoPA11

I was wondering why I didn’t see any expectation of that here, you make it sound like a no news lol

  20. SpyroManiac36

What’s the point if they don’t have exclusive games anymore? It will sell less than the current gen xbox which is already a flop

  21. Is it bad that a PC/console hybrid is exactly what I want tho so I technically had a second PC?

  22. C137RickSanches

Cool will continue to boycott Microsoft regardless

  23. That’s not what she said. She said there’s gonna be multiple storefronts and all your Xbox library will roll over to the new console. They pretty much confirmed it will have steam plus play all your Xbox library.

  24. HisDivineOrder

The OP is going to be so disappointed when the next gen comes and is the opposite of their rather creative reinterpretation of what was said today.
