Yes, I also over did it on the paste 😅

I almost did this to my living room/streaming pc. Was putting the cold plate from my new aio on the cpu. As I was screwing it down, I recalled that I didn’t take it off. Luckily, it only semi-smeared the paste that I was running very low on, and I salvaged it.

I’m 30 years in and haven’t done this once. We won’t talk the other things though.

I always clean the contact points off first, so I won’t be making this mistake.
However I will make the mistake of hitting the power button for the first time, panic for 10 seconds as it does nothing, and then realize I didn’t turn the power supply on.

I built a lot of computers. It happens when you want to test or just make sure everything boots properly before securing it down. Then viola, it boots perfectly! Happy thoughts race into your mind as you screw it down… and then the only question that matters pops into your head….

Enough of these have been posted that I think about the film on the cooler before I even think about building a new computer.

I’ll be honest after my recent build, just because of this sub…I was extra careful with my tempered glass (even though I was on carpet) and double checked the AIO water block. This sub has made me paranoid. Been building since I was 8.

Ha! I’ve been doing it 30 years and did this for the 1st time this year. Never too old/experienced to make a stupid mistake!

Over 30 years here, in my most recent build I forgot to remove the plastic from my graphics card backplate for about a month. 😂

It’s strange… Long before manufacturers put those stupid stickers on I always out of habit inspected the surface of the heatsink just incase something was on it like a small hair, maybe a bug, possibly a little ball of styrofoam or possible damage.

Well thats one way to get the sticker off is to burn it off.

Buddy I did the same, been building PCs for more than a decade, on my recent 9800x and 5090 build I couldn’t figure out why the temps were so high , pull it off to change the thermal paste and behold, plastic on the heatsink
I had to sit down and just stare at it for a minute

10 years of building PCs or a couple built over the course of 10 years?

Happens to the best of us
Nah you just dumb and blindÂ
I’ll give you one better. When I was building my fiancé’s pc I showed her the sticker and explained to always take it off. Then 10 seconds later I applied paste and finished the build without removing the sticker… I literally remembered and even showed her, then failed to take the damn thing off lol. Temps hitting 60 in the bios told me what I had done lol
