If GTA 6 Story is more GTA 5 than RDR2 or GTA 4, then that would be incredibly disappointing

Won’t somebody think of the children?
And ah yes, don’t want any famously terrible dark storytelling like Red Dead 2.
Titanusgamer
I just feel it is a PR stunt to keep gta6 in news.

Maybe Lucia is the cop, doing a little prison time to throw the scent. Though the way the cop thought he recognized Jason in the trailer could be for reasons other than prior visitations.
We will see next year.

It’s because they wanted to go bass to mouth.

“we know our target audience are young adults and adults but majority of playerbase are kids so tone it down a bit, okay?”
was it something like this?

Hot take, despite GTA4 having a better story, GTA5’s story is more fun to play than GTA4. The world is depressing enough, let us have some damn fun.
Edit: Proof – how many people avoided the Strauss mission up until they couldn’t in RDR?

Given some of the recent slop we’ve been presented with this is concerning. How can you get darker than previous entries? But you can get more socially awkward with veilguard levels of elementary school writing.

I feel like rockstar can do what they want and don’t really answer to the publisher soooo…. Can’t say I believe it

Good.
Its a series about criminals, yea, but that doesn’t mean we need another disgusting interactive torture scene or other elements dark enough to cause multiple story rejections. GTA games are fun for me, but make it too dark and itll be another game I drop halfway through or maybe not even buy it in the first place, if the reviews say its too fucked up.
Give me more fun bank robberies, let me rob random stores around the map, mug civilians on the street, build a criminal empire by purchasing laundromats to use as a cover for a big drug operation, purchase strip clubs and gun stores for discounts and such, maybe even a system to manage the production and distribution of drugs or guns or something else illegal. Bring back that turf war mechanic of having to keep control of territory and wage war to expand. You can totally make fun games about criminals without it necessarily getting all that dark.

You’re telling me they didn’t go with the first draft of the story? No shit!
TheBatSignal
Well I had at least a 1% interest in this game before this. I was going to give it at least an honest try but not now anymore.
I shouldn’t have been surprised though

Pretty sure this is just to keep people talking about GTA 6 . They only delayed it for other titles to die down after their releases and of course with the upcoming next gen consoles.. why wouldn’t they want to maximize profits?
They’ll release it on current gen and next for double dipping and I’m sure within the next three years.. we’ll get it on PC.
Don’t forget the $80 price tag either.. and that’s just for the standard edition.. not the pre order shark card edition. Lol

“Too Dark” is too broad. Like, even asking “what constitutes a dark story?” will give hundreds of different answers.
IMO, this doesn’t tell us anything.. only that Dan Houser left, which then in turn can have said many answers.

I can already tell this is some misleading clickbaity nonsense fluff just by seeing Game Rant in the URL.

Too dark? Weren’t games in the past much darker ?

Stealing cars to casually mount the sidewalk to freight train digital people seems pretty dark to me. 😂

If I had to guess, it would be that Houser probably wanted to critique excessive spending / glorifying money, while the rest of rockstar management wanted to make a game that’s about money and how cool it is to spend it. RDR2 was like a scream from the developers at the state of the industry imo .. “world’s changin’.. they don’t want folk like us no more..”

This isn’t real. Rockstar practically owns Take-Two. They don’t take direction from them. Dan basically had full creative control over everything. They delayed RDR2 by nearly a year just because he specifically wanted them to add black bars to the game. Max Payne 3 went through a ton of rewrites and delays just to flop. T2 didn’t question it. He was THE guy.
I genuinely think he left because he wanted RDR2 to be his swan song. It was the biggest undertaking of any project and likely one he was most proud of. Listening to interviews with him he is a massive fan of classic literature and RDR2 is the closest thing to that.
Not to mention he literally stated in an interview that he wouldn’t want to do another GTA because things are beyond parody at the moment.

I’ve been keeping my expectations low since Dan Houser left. Hope I’m pleasantly surprised but the rockstar of today seems a long way off what it once was.
Jirachibi1000
Tbf GTA has always been a mix of comedic and funny with dark themes and moments, so I can see a world where the pitch was “no comedy, no funny. 1000% serious and dark the entire way” being rejected.
SweetTooth275
So they’ll make all the characters absolute clowns like in San Andereas and V just because average joe wants to see shit blow up every 5 seconds and not using any brain?
HolyRomanPrince
This is another casualty of how all media gets ran through the mass appeal algorithm. The other 3 stories are a reflection of contemporary American times, even though 3 misses with the mafia angle it makes up for it with the pre 9/11 ambivalence to the world’s problems and over consumerism. Let’s artists create their art

Well, here comes a year of doom posting about how the GTA VI is going to suck. Would have preferred dark myself.

That’s the first legitimately disappointing news I’ve heard about GTA6.

Bet the ending is Lucia Vs whatever the guy’s name is. And you can only pick one as opposed to Gta 5 where there was the 3rd option of saving everyone

I don’t know. From what I gathered, the trailer was very bright and sunny. So, maybe some darkness would give more variety to the environment.
