Life as an idiot can be really taxing: For months I waited for the cheapest 1TB NVMe to get even cheaper…and forgot that I can only fit the chubby, short style. Dæmmit.

Get an m2 enclosure and use it via USB (type c in the best case).

I was about to mention the possibility of an extension but it seems you ve figgured it out .

That’s the WWAN card slot, not for an SSD. Basically the LTE cellular wireless module.
Example: L830-EB LTE 4G wireless module for thinkpads.

That slot isnt even for ssd’s…
Sad-Base1195
Just fold it in half

As a fellow idiot, take comfort in knowing that it took me an hour to find the slot on my first nvme build so you’re not alone.

There’s hope yet, brother. That’s not the slot for the HDD/SSD. try looking again and finding out where yours is, depending on what year yours was manufactured it might even have an NVME slot in there.

You can convert the m.2 to be used in an enclosure making it a portable m.2

From today I’m calling that the chubby, short style.
Cut it and have 2 500gb

I gotta say, NVMe has been such a bullshit “standard.” M2? M.2 with what key type? What length?
Back in the old days SATA was SATA and IDE was IDE unless it was 2.5 inch IDE, a name which is very clear about what it means.
Use as external backup?
Just cut it in half, the smaller size will allow for faster read and write times
I hate to tell you but that’s not for an nvme 😔
That’s clearly a t490, take a broader pic, SSD is off camera
Dude, provide your motherboard model /laptop model and like a dozen people will tell you where the M2 slot is actually located.
m.2 for ssd port is hidden under metal cage at the other side in that laptop:

At least you didn’t clean your pc with alcohol like someone posted
