I’ve read that PTM 7950 could be viable to decrease temps for gpu’s, but the fit and machining on the heat sink surface is not so great.

There’s literal crevices in the heatsink where I’m concerned a liquid interface could flow into. Do I just drop pursuing PTM 7950? Try and fill the gap with some other material then use PTM on top? Just roll with it as is?

Right now I’m using x45 and am getting 65 deg C at full load, 3080 Ti Gaming X Trio. I’ll be upping the power limit with the suprim x bios though.

    I don’t know why you even need PTM7950 when your temperature is well below the 83 degree thermal limit, but don’t dare mix two different thermal interfaces. Just use PTM7950, run several heat cycles, and check the results.

    PTM works pretty much anywhere traditional paste works.
    This is straight up bad cooler design, or a faulty coldplate. Interface material won’t really change anything about that.

    Edit: I just checked some teardowns, that is apparently how the coldplate is supposed to look. It is indeed bad design.
    Either way, PTM will definitely work in this case, it’s not really mechanically different from paste in that regard. Crevices that big aren’t something that paste would solve meaningfully.

    Isnt that a RTX3090 MSI X Trio ? Looks same as mine

    I did use PTM on mine and delta is only 11C now.

    Crevices dont matter . Dont even worry about PTM sipping trough – it wont.

    So just did a bit of gaming, temps were 69.8 deg C and 78 deg C for gpu and memory briefly. At around 96-100% tdp, 60-62 gpu and 70-72 memory.
    At lower loads it’s 50-53 deg C gpu and 66 to 68 deg C for memory, which I find kinda puzzling.

    Should I try flashing with new higher power limit bios, check, and then put on new pads and ptm? Or should I see how it does with current bios? I’m leaning towards the former, since I’m worrying about thermals specifically because of higher power draw.
