My theory was that when they had red eyes, they weren’t being controlled by anyone and were “acting on their own accord” as just regular brainless zombies.

Well this used to be an actual debate with plausible theories but the modern zombies team says that zombie eye color has never meant anything at all. My idea was that it’s the devil controlling the zombies since the first time we saw red eyes was Mob of the Dead, and that map was removed from the rest of the storyline until BO3 came out. Then I assumed it was the Shadowman, but now I’m honestly not sure.
