I miss the old credit-based progression systems in games like Black Ops 1 and Halo Reach.
Unlocking gear felt genuinely rewarding… like you earned it, because you had to put in time and effort just to save up for it.
There was a sense of purpose behind every choice.

The good Day man that brought back so much memories
I enjoy progression unlocks though at the time of BLOPs 1 we had that system for YEARS, and that’s all COD had. The credits system offered so much flexibility in your unlocks and was such a fresh take on progression. I miss those days of MW2 & BLOPS1
the days before games had multiple types of currencies (and paid ones) were great.
saving up your credits and deciding between a new gun, equipment, or skin was much more enjoyable than having everything separate.
What do you mean, they never left? Simply insert your credit card and up you go
The BO1 progression system was awesome. High Roller matches were intense. High risk, high reward.
Play the finals!!!
Damn didn’t realize we ever even had this. I just refuse to grind for a weapon I think I might like. It sucks because I’m giving up precious time with a weapon I enjoy for the chance to get a better one I might slightly enjoy longer
Helldivers 2..?
reach’s credit system was hot garbage, but BO1’s was pretty solid
fucking trauma flashback any time i hear the words warrant and officer together
it was cool in blops especially with the gambling modes. but overall I think I prefer level based progression with a little bit of challenge based progression
I really miss the Barracks of challenges from CoD the current set up is terrible
Contracts was a different type of mechanism in COD.
I preferred BO2, where you used the unlock token.
To a point i liked it.
Helldivers 2 has one
It’s so simple, but I’ve been loving that Nightreign let’s you unlock costumes and features with in-game currency. It made me realize how rare such simple progression has become.
Modern gaming: sorry skysafe, I can’t give credits. Come back when you’re a little..Mmmm….. Richer!
That takes me back right there..
My favorite is still titanfall 2. In multiplayer you get those sweet sweet side scrolling golden letters and borders.
The finals
Trying to know how to unlock a weapon in BF1 is like trying to navigate witchcraft text. And the other games, to unlock a weapon you need a blueprint of some shit that is unlocked by doing a quest of some other shit.
Grinding in CoD was only prestige. Now everything is a grind to milk more money out of the game. So sad.
Progression systems are pointless. You paid for the game. You should get all the features.
the credit progression is now your wallet
Play The Finals
i miss when multiplayer shooters didnt have progression at all and everyone was on even playing field
I like credits based progression for base items but task based improvements.
Like 5000 credits for the AK-74U
But red dot requires 10 head shots
Extended mag requires 25 killls
Etc
Gambling on rounds of one in the chamber was the fucking BEST.
i miss this so hard… black ops 1 was perfect.
