The Witcher 4 Is Made with Console-First Approach; 60 FPS on Xbox Series S Will Be ‘Extremely Challenging’ to Achieve, Says CDPR

Dumbest decision Microsoft made was the Series S. Handcuffed themselves

  2. Realistic_Union7922

Then don’t. this console gen is fucked anyways, nobody expect this game to run 4K/120 on console.

Just give us the game when it’s ready and fully optimized.

  3. pc version potential is going to held back by this “console first” approach from cdprojekt, less things, less technical impressive, lower draw distance, more poping etc, it’s a disaster.

  4. CourierFive

So don’t do it on Series S at all. Nobody wants your last mistake repeated again. You least of all.
If it’s not doable, it’s not doable and then you are forced to downgrade everything, or even scale the game down on all platform, just because of one shitty platform.

This time pc people gets L then😭(hopefully not)
Cyberpunk is still exceptional on high end pc because they focused on pc first

  6. It already is like 4-5 years old. Just stop making games that work on it.

This is what has killed Monster Hunter Wilds. Go check the Steam reviews. It’s 90% performance related because Capcom targeted consoles. It runs better on a PS5 than my $4000 PC.

I waited a year to buy Cyberpunk. I got it for $17 with 30GB worth of patches and it was way better optimized than launch. CDPR, amongst others, have trained me not to buy their games on release. I’ll buy The Witcher 4 for $19.99 on Steam sale 18 months after release, with tons of patches and optimizations, a host of available mods and likely no intrusive DRM.

I guess this is what they want.

  8. Who cares what the game looks like as long as it’s playable and a good game.

  9. To people saying “Don’t put it on Series S”, Microsoft won’t let you do a series x only game, it has to be both on the Series X & Series S, it is why some games get delayed on xbox when compared to PS5 for example.

  10. RimaSuit2

Didn’t cyberpunk have a similar statement iirc?

  11. CrotasScrota84

Series S held back an entire generation for literally no fucking reason

  12. the series s was dead on arrival idc what anybody says

  13. DevelopmentScary3844

From software engineering perspective this seem to be a really smart thing to do. When you think about the Cyberpunk 2077 on consoles they seem to have learned a lesson. PC gamers will profit here aswell I think since they can rump everything up.

  14. laddervictim

I had an S, upgraded to an X and there’s a while generation of differences by console standards. Pc equivalent would be able to play the game on minimal settings while it still looks good even if it affects play. Load times are just as good but overall lighting and effects and I’m sure enemy count are just better on the X Vs the S. On bg3 you needed an X to play split screen until the latest patch

  15. If they’re at least trying then that sounds promising at the very least.

  16. Hayami_Rose

Kind of messed up because they shot themselves in the foot with the Xbox series S. Before it was released it was told by the way they were saying it was supposed to have the same power as the series X. Anyone like me who got it found out that was a lie. I play my PC more than the Xbox and I wonder why

  17. Love_Doctor69

Series S shouldn’t even be considered cuz it’s a scam console weaker than current smartphones

  18. MyUserNameIsSkave

Just go the UE5 approche and render the game a 50% resolution. Unless it’s already a big part of their solution to make the 60fps possible for the Series X…

  19. I mean whoever got the Series S most likely doesn’t even care about performance so doesn’t matter in the long run.

  20. shitcum2077

The ignorance in this comment section is astounding. CPDR is talking about making a UE5 game with all the bells and whistles run 60fps on a Series S, which is something that even the PS5/XSX can’t do with ease.

  21. Affectionate_Draw_43

30fps is extremely noticeable. I’d rather play a game in 1080 than lose frame rates

  22. It’s the post 2077 effect, it fucked the console platform at yhe release and losed millions of initial sales,

They just want to their new title run properly well in every platform it support, the xss may not target 60fps, more like a upscaled drs 720p~1080p.

Also console first is not the problem since consoles have unified specs, the pc ports are more accessible if the game has a good method to scale different specs.

  23. Ffs xbox series s really is the leg irons of this gen…

  24. dissentingopinionz

Nah you just crank the graphics down for them. If you want good graphics and frame rates you get a PC.

  25. People love shitting on Xbox series S and MS mandating support for it, but the effort towards optimising on weaker hardware will make the game run on more PC configurations, including handhelds like steam deck and the new Xbox themed ROG Ally. Yes it will be a difficult task but ultimately this isn’t hurting anyone except potentially Xbox Series X users who may miss out on games because they couldn’t be made to work on the S

  26. FIRST_DATE_ANAL

They want to make sure it can run on Switch 2 I bet

  27. MyUserNameIsSkave

So this not going to be a next gen title ? It is a bit underwhelming. Yet an other game that’s gonna be blurry at release because they want to do too much on the current hardware. Considering the Tech Demo was already a smeary mess at time I have some concerns.

Also it leaves me to think the next gen is gonna be more of the same of what happened with the current gen. No new game at release for a while, only cross gen title with mild visual updates.

  28. Flamesparkz

PC gamers forget that people with high-end hardware is in the minority and that the advantage of a console-first approach is that it should be optimized to run better on lower-end hardware. This makes it more accessible to more people. This is a good thing for the vast majority of people who want a game that performs well on their hardware – including handheld hardware that has gained more and more popularity over the years. This is good.

  29. SvenLorenz

It’s just crazy how much the Xbox Series S has hurt this generation. Publishers should have ignored that piece of crap from the beginning.

  30. john_weiss

    Series S = Switch 2

This is gonna become a trend this generation unless Nintendo pulls some serious in house DLSS with Nvidia.

  31. You are going to release it on Switch 2 eventually anyway, just do some of the work beforehand…

  32. Elven_Groceries

Why work so hard on Xbox S when they’re ditching PS4? They’re the same. Ditch S as well, focus on progress, if you focus on consoles, that is. Dang marketing.

  33. BadDogSaysMeow

“We are going to make the game worse, for it to work on the lowest quality console”

    Fixed that for you.

  34. plantfumigator

30 is not that bad especially when steady

Source: been on that high refresh rate game with a 4090 for 2 years (and a 3060 ti and 1440p240 for several years until that), recently got a 360 and been playing GTA4 on it and absolutely enjoying

  35. GCJ_SUCKS

If they’re still trying to target older consoles, it’s going to turn out like cyberpunk 2077. That was an awful mess on release.

  36. Honestly developers shouldn’t care about this shit series s. Don’t even release it on this console. It’s just waste of time and resources. I’m saying this as the owner of Xbox 360 and Xbox one

  37. Rokushakubo

Just drop Series S then. Shouldn’t let last gen consoles hold the game back.

  38. BadClass_og

Jesus man they need this game to be good so bad but they’re already handicapping themselves? For fuck sakes Microsoft needs to drop the series S and let this generation move on and finally shine!
