That’s very not good, definately get a refund or replacement.

The risk is that even if it does work today, a month or year from now it could fail due to the stress from having been bent like that.

  2. OverheatedIndividual

Just ask for a new one because the product is damaged. You paid the price for it so you deserve the proper product.

  3. Icyknightmare

That looks like a used SSD that was installed wrong. I’d get a refund and a new one.

  4. Flanker-H007

It’ll have a hard time reading as the bits now have to climb up to the PCIe slot, but the writes will be faster as they slide down the SSD /s

  5. Mysterious-Hunt-984

Bend it back when you screw it down

    /s

  6. MEGA_GOAT98

its damaged send it back/refund or replacement

  7. lovachunt

Return it because in the future if SSD needs rma they’ll reject it saying physical damage

  8. No because if it fails at some point u will b out of luck. Return it.

  9. DanielG165

Just ask for a refund. No reason to use a defective product when you don’t have to.

Real answer: go ahead and put that drive back in it’s packaging and send it back. Even if it does still work, there’s no point in using a new drive like that.

Joke answer: it’s gonna give all your files a weird fold line to em

  11. I-LOVE-TURTLES666

Is it supposed to be used?

    Because it was used

  12. Captainkirk05

Not sure if you bought new or used, but if bought “new” from a store, that is certainly a used product that another customer damaged and returned, and was wrongfully resold to you.

  13. Megafister420

Its definitely safe. Weather or not its reliable is a diffrent story

  14. Plenty_Sea7617

not much of an issue but get refund surely

  15. RedditMuzzledNonSimp

NO, its not alright, the pads will lift on the chips after repeated heat cycles.

  16. Dilectus3010

    It’s ok I guess..

If you want your pictures and movies with a bend in it.

  17. ALL_HAIL_Herobrine

Probably still works there’s a lot of people with this kind of bend from bad installing where it still works. If you can get a refund tho get it

  18. fromtheFtotheW

It could break every second under load.

  19. RedSea_Energy222

Heatsinks w thermalpads will often bow ssd like this. Just the other way

  20. tht1guy63

Bought from amazon i assume? You got a used and improperly mounted ssd

  21. RR3XXYYY

Honestly I’d probably just use it, if it breaks later on they aren’t particularly expensive anyways, but I don’t think the chances of that happening are SUPER high

  22. superboo07

that is definitely not safe for your data, and regardless of whether you purchased it used or new you’ve been scammed. At best this nvme is in the nursing home living out its final few months, more likely though is it doesn’t work.

  23. Fit-Honey-7323

Maybe try washing it in some soapy water to make sure it’s clean and safe to use

  24. Krullexneo

Yup someone installed that without the stand off and returned it after realising their mistake.

Aka they’re an asshole. Return it OP and get another, hopefully a new one this time. Good luck!

  25. bangbangracer

It probably is safe to use, but I still wouldn’t use it.

It’s damaged, and if you just bought a new SSD, you should return it. I also think it’s very possible that you just bought a random old SSD that someone returned as a new SSD.

  26. XDM_Inc

I wouldn’t use that, that bend is right where one of the nand chips are which means with enough extreme heat that could de-ball itself and the attached the chip

  27. Cute_camel_bacon

Not good, might as well use it to store onlyuncessary data/programs etc

  28. the-armchair-potato

Plug it in and find out 🤷‍♂️…it’s not going to explode.

  29. theclawl1ves

You paid for a brand new SSD, you deserve to get that. Get a refund. Even if it works, the price you paid is for an un-bent one.

  30. patrickw234

Probably, yes, but maybe not. No reason to not return it and get one in good condition.

  31. NuclearWaffelle

I definitly wouldn’t use it. Even if it works now, solder connections on the chip could’ve been damaged in a way that will impact the drive’s lifespan. If you bought the drive new, then you should return it for a replacement.

  32. Noxious89123

    Return it.

It might work, it might not. It might fail sooner, it might not.

But if you bought a brand new car, you wouldn’t expect it to have a dent in the door. Why would you accept a damaged SSD?

    Return it.

  33. bedwars_player

will it start a fire? no. will it work? fuckin.. maybe? i’ve had worse work.

  34. Wolfenstein49

Return it. I ordered 2 x 32 gb ram from Amazon for my wife’s pc and they originally sent 1 x 32 in one of those return bags lol. I exchanged it no problem

  35. Dry-Law-9372

Why are there like a plethora of posts like this recently?? Refer to the earlier ones and see that it’s been fucked over by someone else and returned, or you’re the one who fucked it up and are trying to play it off. If not, return that crap, jeez. If you bought it new, it’s not new and probably broken. If it’s via eBay, use the buyer protection. If you bought it anywhere else, you’re an idiot.

It’s like some guy saying “oh I bought a new car but all the tires are slashed and the engine is spitting oil, should I keep it? It turns on and makes a noise”.

  36. swim_fan88

How can this possibly be normal?
Why can we not Google things anymore?
Does the slot in the motherboard have a curve?

Just send it back and get a refund.
