Was cleaned out the walk in closet in our guest room and found the SNES classic that was released in 2017. I remember my wife got it for me and I just never opened it. Now I can’t decide if I should play it, or keep it “new in box” for the future.

That little thingy rekindled my passion for gaming after a long hiatus.

It’s not an heirloom. Your wife got it for you to enjoy, so in my opinion you should break it out and hook it up.

See if you can get a secondhand one from marketplace if you are worried about keeping it in box. It is a hell of a lot of fun.

  4. Your wife bought it for you, hook it up and enjoy it man.

Haha, I thought for a sec in was a 90s box and was pretty confused at the number of games included in the box (as well as the Star Fox 2 mention…).

Got one for usage and one for ‘posterity’. Just looked up the resell value….very nice

If you have to ask the internet what to do with your belongings you’re already lost.

    It’s a Nintendo console, a remake of a remake.

It’s hopelessly cringe to “collect” such things. Keep it or don’t but at least use it. Live life

Serially how much do you think it will go for? Its like 200 bucks.

  9. Strokeslahoma

Mod it and play it. It’s so easy to put additional ROMs on it

  10. I love mine, its so much fun. But you will probably want to look into getting the controller cable extensions. The ones in the box are pretty short, unless you want that nostalgic feeling of sitting on the carpet with your face pressed to the TV.

I didn’t know about star fox 2, anyone enjoy it?

Imagining buying my boyfriend a present and he just throws it in a closet. 🫥

Why did you use sarcastic SpongeBob font on barn find?

  14. LookinAtTheFjord

Did she forget about it as well? I’d be pissed if I bought somtin like that for my spouse and they just chucked it in a closet. Like, why the hell didn’t you bust it open and play it immediately!???

  15. Crack that box and play it! If your wife wants to watch someone play classic Mario have her call me.

  16. Primus_is_OK_I_guess

It’s a cheap emulator box. It’s not going to appreciate in value. You can buy them for $100 at Walmart right now.

  17. I’d open it up! My philosophy is if I’m going to own it I’d rather use it and enjoy it than let it sit in a box and collect dust on the hope that it might be worth more money later. All of my MOTU action figures are opened because I like posing them and stuff.

If you think something will be collectible, chances are a lot of people think the same thing. If everyone keeps them new in the box, it isn’t rare and thus not worth anything.

Do what you want with it, but it is not an investment.

  19. I bought this and played it once. Never touched it again. Hope you’ll have more fun with yours.

The amount of Mario2 and street fighter 2 I played my snes 🥹 brings back fond memories

We are in the middle of moving, and this l happened to me yesterday as well.i bought one for myself for like $40 5 years ago and completely forgot about it.

I pulled it out of a cupboard we keep box sets in, and hooked it up immediately.

    Decluttering is for the weak.

I legitimately bust this thing out once a year and beat like 2-3 games. I love it.

Zelda: A Link to the Past is my favorite game of all time.

  23. outlawstarc

Hack it (ez af btw, think I used hackchi?) and add more games to it. Then play it lol. I even added Metroid zero from GBA 😆

  24. TedMeister88

It’s a game console. Game consoles are meant to be played on.

Plug your SNES Classic in, and play.

I always wondered why there was a Star Fox 2 Snes rom. I didnt realize it was a real game

Unsure how collectible these are to warrant keeping locked up, these are basically emulators IIRC and as such likely don’t have the same or comparable level of value as the original consoles do (as they are useful for speed-running, and just purity purposes).

Personally in the realm of retro-devices, just open that puppy up and enjoy it; better than letting it sit doing nothing.

Keep the box though, might be nice for a gaming room or something as a decorative item.

  27. It’s completely legit to take care of it as you use it, and keep the packaging in good shape even, try to keep it all as “like new” as possible. But it’s insane to me to just keep it unopened. Have some fun.

I would be angry if I was your wife and you did not choose to play it

Out of sight out of mind, I get that. But you found it again and it was a gift from someone who think you’re really, really special

    Just play it

  29. I can’t believe how collectibility is warping peoples brains.

  30. Irishguy2008

Break it open and pop in Super Mario RPG! You won’t regret it.

  31. definitelynotciv

Play it, find out how to add more games to it, and enjoy my friend 😁

  32. zapdoszaperson

That thing was probably my favorite purchase of the last 20 years. Its an absolute joy of a product

  33. R-Dragon_Thunderzord

Play it and you can also put more ROMs on it
