Unknown? That’s fucking Brandon Heat / Beyond the Grave from Gungrave. Yasuhiro Nightow isn’t exactly an obscure artist, he did Trigun as well.
Gungrave was fairly big in early anime fan circles, it was very much in the set of anime’s that you might find at Blockbuster if you were lucky.
Never massively popular but by virtue of not much else being available back then, it was well knownish!
Gungrave is in my top five favorite anime.

The anime clearly wanted to tell a different story than the game, and I liked the anime way more, with its mafioso story until it got derailed into the super natural. Until that point it was the story of two friends slowly drifting apart, told in a very thrilling way.
I lamented it when the videogame came calling for its due xD
Is he supposed to have a massive body and small head?
