Street Fighter 6 has been a nice success for Capcom, and it’s apparently performed even better than we previously heard.
Capcom announced tonight that Street Fighter 6 has crossed over 5 million copies sold as the game celebrates its second anniversary.
The company had recently revealed that Street Fighter 6 hit 4.67 million copies worldwide as of March 31 this year.
So that means the game has sold over 300,000 more units over just the past few months.
It’s not stated whether these numbers include the new Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game that launched last week, but either way, this is good news for Street Fighter.
The game has especially been a success in its home country since Capcom revealed Street Fighter 6 sold over 1 million copies in Japan alone as of last year, and they’re planning to hold Capcom Cup there next year as well.
Street Fighter 6 continues to sell at a much faster rate than its predecessor, so it’ll be interesting to see how quickly the game can eclipse what came before.
It took Street Fighter 5 until the end of 2020 to cross 5 million copies, which is almost five years after the game first launched though it’s now approaching 8 million.
So that means SF6 is selling at more than double the rate of SF5, and Capcom is probably pretty happy about that.
Capcom’s president hoped Street Fighter 6 would sell at least 10 million copies over its life before the game was even out, so they’re already half way to that goal in just two years.
Street Fighter 6 of course has another big year ahead of it with the recent release of Elena and the Season 3 update while the Capcom Pro Tour 2025 season is already underway.
Capcom also just recently revealed that Alex, Sagat, C. Viper and Ingrid will make up the Season 3 DLC roster for the game.
At this rate, it’ll be interesting to see just how many years Capcom ends up supporting Street Fighter 6 because they’re seemingly in it for the long haul with no signs of stopping any time soon.
Street Fighter 6 has now sold over 5 million copies! What a way to celebrate our 2nd anniversary! 🎉
Thanks to all our fans out there around the world and to all the prospective fans in the future! pic.twitter.com/aT5EHifE1E
