Fate Grand Order: featuring Dante from the Divine Comedy
Christianity’s **entire concept of hell** originating from an Italian man’s self-insert fanfiction is something I find endlessly hilarious
Imagine being so successful that your story outright shaped an entire religion
Sunburnt-Vampire
**For context:**
* Small Game Event in March introducing a new playable character: Dante Alighieri, author (and protagonist) of the Divine Comedy
* Main Story Update in June with the Divine Comedy’s nine circles of hell as the new setting / Dante featuring once again as a prominent ally.
So any players who want to actually understand all the references being thrown at them between these two in-game updates, had no choice but to grab a copy of the Divine Comedy and read it.

You be surprised how many people learn about history and literature from the Fate series.

A lot of people about to find out that one of the most famous works of literature is actually not very good.

Fate, the series where Odysseus wears a Kamen Rider/Iron Man suit and pilots a transforming Trojan Horse mecha is among the less insane things.

lmao only in 2025 would a gacha game get people reading Dante
I sometimes regret not getting into Fate, but at the same time I *really* can’t imagine going through at least a VN with awkward sex scenes, about half a dozen anime titles that range from “really good” to “Why? I just played the VN/gacha.” to “I can’t talk about this on Reddit without looking sus.”, quite a few console and mobile games, and the absolute juggernaut that is FGO and the almost decade of content that I have missed from that alone and the sheer amount of whaling that I would have to do just to catch up.

When the game can’t be a product, the devs and publishers resort to MTX.
This will be the downfall of games as a product and I wish all those that spent $$$$ on these services a harsh future ahead of themselves.

i mean, in Japan, certain novels now also come with a wrap of a specific Fate depiction of said character.
like Frankenstein’s Monster having Franny up front, or Vlad for Bram Stroker’s Dracula, and can’t forget about Sherlock Holmes.
SpaceOdysseus23
This is actually a common occurence when FGO releases a Western servant as far as I understand

Gatch game sparking interest in old classics?
Let me guess: Fate: Grand Order, and one of the characters is their worlds version of Dante, the author of the Drivine Comedy.

Harken me out to the Sun’s setting: a gacha game based on the works of The Great Bard, William Shakespeare!

From taking over google image searches of historical figures to getting otakus/weebs to read classic literature. Gotta love Fate.

I’m a real person of culture. I learned about the Divine Comedy from Umineko No Naku Koro ni.

This is the game that has Edmond Dantes from Count of Monte Cristo too I think. I remember seeing a bunch of gacha wiki articles just trying to google the book last year

Fate is the thing that made me learn all the mythologies and a lot of history, from a lot of different countries.
Fate is the one thing every school should have in it’s curriculum

I mean I ended up buying the divine comedy after playing Dante’s Inferno on the PS3.
It’s just a good way to find out where this whole “rings of hell” concept started. Although I will say it took a bit of getting used to the language. Quite archaic by now, as you’d expect.

Divine Comedy the most successful fan fiction of all time

I’m not ashamed to admit that Fate Grand Order got me to look up info on more historical/mythological people from history

Well, it might sound absurd, but the only reason I read it as a young adult was because of the references in the Spawn comics.
Wonder if any of em will be prompted to play Dante’s Inferno now and get traumatized by feral unbaptized babies, Cleopatra giving birth through her nipples, and demons with weaponized clitorii.

Now find a way to make them read Paradise Lost and watch them melt like they saw inside the Ark Of The Covenant.

Played FGO for five years before quitting the game earlier this year, and while some characters are terribly misrepresented, one of the coolest things about the franchise is that it leaves you wanting to know more. I learnt so many things searching for things related to the characters that appeared in the Fate series, it even helped me a few times in History class back in highschool.
RarePoem3039
I’ve been reading The Count of Monte Crisco only because of Fate.
