I mean that’s easy to say when the first game is about a decade old and the second game sucked ass.
Still got my fingers crossed though.

Let me get this straight. They acknowledge that DL2 “lost the horror, lost the tension”, but they are releasing the game that literally gives you superpower abilities and that’s a response?
Man, DL should make the game that really make you fell like you are in survival horror, as much grounded as possible. Not turn Crane into a Hulk.

Yeah Dying Light 1 was brutal, challenging yet fun as fuck when running around getting weapons and jumping through the city at night and the story has some weight.
Dying light 2 was meh on the storytelling side and it’s characters were tone deaf but still has moments of fun
Hoping the beast is more akin to the first one.

Spoilers: Dying Light 2 was dumb as fuck because they made the MC infected and only let us use that aspect for *the last fucking mission*. It was supposed to add more and somehow fell short even though it was a huge map. The story flat out sucked, probably because they just had to go pay millions to an A List celebrity (Rosario Dawson) instead of paying less for a legitimate VA. That would have definitely given them a larger budget by default. And the late implementation of guns was a desperate attempt to keep the game alive.
First one really made me fall in love with the premise, so I hope this delivers on what the first one essentially implied with the DLCS and whatnot.

For the love of god , do not put a walk a million miles trophy , ruined the game for me lol

I mean, the first night chase in the first game was really something special, for a couple of hours you were warned about the night then right at the end of the cutscene you heard the music with the percussions, man of course you’d shit your pants.
But this fear factor disappeared naturally over time; by the time the second game came out, you already figured out how to juke specials. It will never be as scary because they’re action games where you jump around, dropkicking zombies into spikes.
I also learned that devs hyping up a game on nostalgia never ends well, so, I hope this game won’t have an identity crisis

ye ive never heard a AAA dev talk about how their Xth game is the best theyve ever made.. This is gonna be a banger.

This is the kind of self-awareness I need from game devs. They’re not wrong, DL2 leaned way too hard into the action RPG stuff and that gnawing dread from the first game just wasn’t there.
Nanganoid3000
I would say that too when my second game flopped.

I still do a playthrough of Dying light 1 on the hardest difficulty with my boys once a year that game still holds up beautifully. Well everything besides story.

It’s interesting to hear them talk about DL2 like that, as it’s nice to see some honesty from a dev and realizing they missed the mark with DL2 (Didn’t help that game had such a rough development), but interesting to hear this about The Beast, has me abit more interested in it as otherwise I was passing on this standalone DLC. I didn’t hate DL2, I finally got to it last year, but it didn’t have the impact of the first game.

I hope so. I loved dying light 1. That is one of my favorite zombie games ever. I just could not get into 2. It felt like a different game and not in a good way.
Master_Opening8434
I hope they go back to the weighty feeling of DL1. I absolutely hate how arcady and soft DL2 feels especially with its rpg mechanics making the game feel so weak and bland. If I hit a zombie in the head with a big metal wrench it needs to feel impactful no matter what asinine “rarity” it is.

One of the things I really liked about Dying Light 1 was that everything was new, and then night fell and I was scared. It had a good story to keep me entertained and multiplayer was pretty good. It was fresh.
Dying Light 2 was not.
This is the first I am hearing of 3… Is it new and scary?

I wish I had upgraded to the ultimate edition for dying light 2 when it was announced the beast would be included. Probably would’ve saved some money. The beast is $90 game for me.

DL2 was a huge disappointment

Today at 10: Developer says their new upcoming game is “the best ever” and *not* “a terrible piece of doo doo crap”
Later at 11: Fire hot?
Jokes aside, yeah, what else are they supposed to say? that they think they did a bad job and you should not buy the game? this has the same energy as Feige saying [new character] is “the best in the MCU” or that [actor] says “yes!” to willingness to play the character in another movie (you mean actor likes money?)

DL2 was meh on release but it’s fantastic now! For those who passed on it at first definitely give it a try
The 30 min trailer for the beast has the worried. That was A LOT of shooting guns at other guys with guns in a DL game. I sure hope guns are just as rare in the previous games

May be an unpopular opinion, but I wish they could get Dead Island back and do a good one.

Dying light absolutely nailed the vibes, the despair, horror and brutality you were confronted with is just unmatched. From everything, the leveldesign to the sound of the ping that highlight items, it all just meshed so well to create this feeling of dread. This coupled with the night being genuinly dangerous for most of the game made for a great game. Unfortunately Dying Light 2 had almost none of that, it felt bland in comparison, the spice was missing so to say, it felt a lot more like a generic post apocalypse.
If The Beast is a return to Dying Light i more than welcome it, if it doesn’t give me nightmares i don’t want it.

My biggest issue with dl2 was how it looked. Dl1 was raw and gritty. Dl2 was teen titans go level

Dying light 2 takes a second to grow on you but it becomes its own fun thing. I honestly feel like they were trying to make an mmo with it and just gave up
