I think they should, but i agree with your title. Their should be a little speaker icon to mute it, or at least give us an option in the settings.

Gta 4 / tbogt pause menu music are literal experiences. You had to be there. Waking up in the middle of the night to those serenades because you fell asleep was an S tier childhood experience

As long as game mutes when you tab out/minimize it while it’s paused, it’s fine – covers practical cases of stopping the game without closing, while keeping overall experience for people that like audio from launch to close.

Okay so you just want silence while scrolling through menus? Most RPGs have gear/skill/party/item management in the “pause” menu.
Nothing to listen to while doing that is straight up dumb. Straight to jail with your opinion.
If you don’t like it press your mute button. It’s the same button for all games, TV shows, movies, and music on your TV/computer.

Don’t mind it when they do, so long as either its not to loud or there should be a specific audio slider for pause menu volume, i can’t remember specifically wich game so that but they are the best when they do.

I dont really care about that tho. Usually when i pause i intend to stand up and step away from my computer. Or hell if it doesnt have a pause button id just leave mid boss fight since whatever it is more important then a videogame.

I imagine you are using a second monitor? Otherwise you should remap a key like page up to mute audio. Or just get a keyboard with audio controls.
You can also try windows+g and controls volumes ingame for everything running.
