Iv always ran air cooling usually the stock cooler. But I I’m usually running rust. Beamng drive or city skylines so I feel water cooling would be lost in me.

I’m also air cooling. I only rebuild/replace my system every 5-7 years, and really appreciate the simplicity and affordability of very good air cooling options. I basically set it and forget it until the next build.
Are AiOs now reliable enough that you set it and forget it for the next 5-7 years?

My treshold for air cooling is 170-200w. AIO above that
Not worth bothering with it for GPUs tho. Last couple generations run pretty cool.

I started my build at the beginning of 2023. I was ultimately going to do DIY liquid cooling. Then the DeepCool Assassin IV came out. It looks way too sexy in my North XL to ever look back. I regret nothing!!

aircooling with kryosheet from thermall grizzly, no mess just clean ❤️
Considering that there are companies that are willing to pay for any and all damages done by an AIO going bad, to the entire system, i see no compelling reason to NOT go with one. More space for the RAM sticks, better cooling, less strain on the MB, etc.
Temporary_Ad927
Air cooling takes too much space around the cpu so i don’t like air cooling.
Otherwise-Dig3537
Aircooling is just rubbish, I don’t understand how anyone can be so ignorant to deny the numbers of a 360mm AIO compared to an air cooler. Lower = better, it’s that simple. Lower noise, lower temps. 240mm AIO are just worthless and directly comparable to crappy air coolers. I had aircoolers for decades before AIO were invented and the numbers don’t lie.

Who tf aside from the most enthusiastic of enthusiasts even bother with a custom loop these days, it’s so 2016. Paying a price of a mid-range gpu for optional components just to be stuck with an unsellable maintenance hog, at least compared to a normal PC, that also can kill your components in case of failure, given that those joints are as reliable as your own work.

I take air cooling so that I can spend more on other parts.

As long as my temps aren’t averaging in the 90s it’s air cooling for me. CPUs are built to last around constant 85 degrees anyways. My 7 yrs old gaming laptop is still alive and that thing handled constant abuse back when I didn’t care too much about temp management.
Either way, solid AIOs are cheaper than premium Air Coolers and the debate was always which was more cost effective. Not to mention Higher core count CPUs overwhelm the best heatsinks.
Trivial jabs like this are a demonstration that people rather pick a virtual religious stance than the appropriate tool for the job.

Both are technically air cooling. Just different medium of transfer to the radiator.

My system already has a fuckton of failure points and if I be paranoid about it I won’t be able to enjoy anything, from building to using.
AIOs ain’t as bad as this subs makes them look.

Yeah I also got a AIO water cooler for my current built but it is from 2021 so I will be switching it out soon for an air cooler.

GPU outputs more heat than CPU nowadays, and I’m not seeing many AIO for these (where it might actually be a good idea as sometimes you end up with the fan right up against the bottom of the case!)
Are AIOs fully out of favour now or are there certain configurations and usecases where they are still recommended?
