The fact you can change between apps like gog is pretty dam cool.

  5. I wonder if Microsoft will subsidize it in any way or if it’ll cost the same (or more) as the current Ally / Ally X.

It’s a cool looking device and seems powerful and does everything you’d want it to do, but the last frontier for me, that would get me to permanently subscribe to gamepass (which I currently have never) would be that if I play a game on game pass, and later want to buy it on Steam, that my save file is compatible. I don’t want to put 25 hours into a 50 hour JRPG on game pass, have it delisted when the publisher agreement is up, and not get to play it again, start from scratch, etc. I want to own all my games and keep my game saves, but that doesn’t mean I want to buy everything at full price because obviously that is too much money, but playing something on game pass where it can go away for me is a deal breaker for how I want to interact with my games. I ideally want to play it day one on game pass, but later buy a digital copy, and I don’t want 30% of my game on one service, 40% on another, etc, etc. I want it centralised on Steam.

  7. It looks like they’re running xbox app on windows, I wonder how that will work.

I think I would much prefer the pure xbox console closed into handheld.

  8. i suppose the price will keep most people away, since it definitely will be more expensive ($699 minimum) than steam deckand switch 2

  9. ChimmyMama

Native integration with STEAM and Gamepass pretty much certifies value for me. Just need to know price.

Glossing over Silksong feels like crime to be honest. Not even a trailer or anything…

  11. JackSpadesSI

Really wish it didn’t have that big ROG logo on the front like that.

    Hi everyone.

I have an Xbox. I do not subscribe to GamePass. I do not have a PC.

So I’ve never really looked into any of the “Play Anywhere” stuff.

So my simple, probably dumb, question…are the games installed on the device? Or does it use cloud based streaming to play?

    Thank you.

Nice, as neat as the PS Portal is, requiring a dedicated connection sucks. It’s why I never got one. I expect Sony will re-enter the handheld market again now that the tech will allow for the games.

I still love my Vita though

Shout out to Justice, the song *Genesis* slaps and is so sick.

  15. WhoEvenIsPoggers

I need this to be a success so they can make a second one then I’ll buy that one

  16. KingMercLino

Microsoft doing a branded handheld and showcasing a Pokémon type game a few days after Switch 2 launches was diabolical but welcome

  17. I’ll need to see how it feels in hand. One thing I’ve always wanted was just a screen with PlayStation or Xbox controller basically cut in half. Like the PlayStation Portal, but an actual dedicated handheld

  18. Euphoric-Shift6540

Do you guys realize we have been able to do all this on the og ally that came out in June 2023?? This thing is just gonna be the next gen ally.. super powerful and looks very comfortable to hold lol

  19. Practical-Aside890

I think there is also a rumor of another handheld to be released sometime whenever the next gen console is. But I might be mixing things up.this might be the only one they do.

  20. If it uses Windows, how is this any different than the regular ROG Ally?

  21. Littleonion45

So is this the new main console or Is this something else

  22. Traditional-Mouse739

I sure hope the screen is at least equal to the size of steam deck oled

  23. WonderfulTradition40

Oh man, it’s 7 inches again? God dmn it!!!

  24. MitsubishiSashimi

Is it a brand new OS specifically made for gaming/handhelds? Or is it just a launcher with all the issues of windows still running in the background?

I’m down for more competition in the handheld space, but I feel like everyone else but Nintendo is missing the forest for the trees. These extremely expensive handheld PCs do only 1 thing out of the box, and that is play games on the go. If you want to play games on your nice shiny fancy TV with your nice speaker setup, you need to fork over more money for a “dock” and a separate controller. Not many people have/will be willing to fork over $700 just for a handheld. The same can be said about paying $800 to turn it into a full hybrid console experience.

The magic of the Nintendo Switch 2 is that you get both a handheld and console for $450, developers will optimize their games for it, and you can play Nintendo games on it. The value proposition, in my opinion, is just so much better.

For background, I have a RTX 4070 PC, Xbox Series X, and now Nintendo Switch 2. I’d love to replace my XSX with an Xbox hybrid system akin to the Switch 2, but this just isn’t it and it would need be like $599. Gameplay is more important than graphics.
