The iconic Rainbow Road track returns in Mario Kart World, but to unlock the secret eighth track, you’ll first need to meet several requirements. This guide explains everything you need to know about unlocking the secret eighth cup, Rainbow Road, in Mario Kart World.

Upon selecting the Grand Prix mode in Single or Multiplayer, you’ll be shown seven different cups, each containing four courses. These include the Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, Star Cup, Shell Cup, Banana Cup, Leaf Cup, and Lightning Cup.

After completing each of the seven cups in the Grand Prix mode, you will then unlock the hidden eighth cup, the Special Cup.

The unlock requirements for Rainbow Road are surprisingly easier than we first thought, and we’ve confirmed that as long as you play and finish each cup, it doesn’t matter what CC you run the courses in or even where you place.

For example, alongside a number of podium finishes, we also finished sixth and even 22nd to test the extremes of the unlock. Still, those finishes were enough to trigger the eighth cup cutscene once we’d finished each Cup.

Once you unlock the Special cup, you’ll be able to play the quintessential Rainbow Road, which has been reborn in this new iteration of the game.
