WHY AREN’T THEY JUST HANDING YOU THE RECEIPT LIKE A NORMAL PERSON?

This happened at a GameStop in Staten Island, NY and could have impacted well over 100 customers
> Photos from a string of Switch 2 customers show how staples can easily penetrate through the console’s packaging, which consists of a thin cardboard box and a flimsy plastic envelope containing the main Switch 2 unit.
> Many images showing the problem include receipts from the same Staten Island branch of GameStop, which appears to have stapled receipts to much of their midnight launch Switch 2 stock. A video of the midnight launch posted by one attendee shows a long line of customers waiting at this particular GameStop branch — many of whom now appear to have been impacted in the same way.
> “They stapled the receipt to the box at 1756 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY 10303 and it damaged the screen.” GameStop and Nintendo are yet to give the fan a response.
> “It’s seeming like everyone there had the same thing done to their boxes as well. Over 100 people were there tonight.”
Taograd359
Game Stop never beating the allegations of being an absolute joke.
NoGoodManTH
How is that even possible? Usually, these packages have a ton of space between the top of the box and the item inside. Is there no padding at all? Do they just expect these things to get destroyed during shipping?

That store is gonna take a hit. I understand Nintendo didn’t use the most packaging, they used the same style for the og switch.
I just never heard of a store stapling a receipt to anything other than a bag or hand it to you.
VeeDubBug
This is such negligence. When I did my stint at Gamestop, it was typical to put the receipt inside the game case, or even tape it to a console box (usually when being bought “as a gift”). Everything else, receipt either got handed to the customer or placed in a bag.
I think my manager would have smacked me with the stapler himself if I ever touched a console box with one. 😬
T_raltixx
That’s so bad. Wow.
NCHouse
Tf staples receipts to the box? Why can’t they just be normal?
N7-o
Also an extra fuck you to people who like to keep and collect the box.
GromOfDoom
Did not happen to mine. They put a sticker on the box to match to a sticker on my receipt.
GaryCXJk
Okay, here’s the thing. Why the fuck would any retailer use fucking staplers on something where even the box has value to some people? And before you say that this is stupid, some gamers, mainly collectors, actually take good fucking care of the original packaging of their consoles.
bedsidelurker
I genuinely don’t understand how Gamestop still exists
Losreyes-of-Lost
lol at some folks blaming the packaging from Nintendo. Just hand the receipt over to the customer or put it into the bag. I find it hilarious that this GameStop and company now getting into PSA grading (even though I see it’s only trading cards at the moment), thought it would be a good idea to puncture a box that could potentially had a customer bring it back to them and pay for it to be graded in the future 😔
celerypizza
Lmao GameStop wouldn’t accept my ps4 because there was a thin layer of dust on the top of the console.
I also paid for a new PS5 game and they handed me an unsealed copy with the “new” sticker (impossible to remove) on the case. And when i got home i noticed the employee’s oily fingerprints on the bottom of the disc. “New.”
Fuck GameStop.
Broseph_Bobby
You staple it to the bag… not the box…
You put the customers items in the bag then staple the receipt to the inside of the bag.
DefinitionLittle1281
If they were going to use staples, they should have stapled receipts to the top of the box or side. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve read that the Switch 2 boxes aren’t sealed – just like the OG Switch boxes weren’t (which is an issue in and of itself). They should have opened one of the boxes to determine how the system was packed before doing anything.

Yikes that sucks. GameStops fault for not cultivating a better environment to work and pay system for their employees. They’ve been circling the toilet bowl for years now. The employees are probably overworked and understaffed so keep this in mind before you go bashing the employees.
Iggy_Slayer
Are they using a wooden stake to pin it down? How the hell does a 1 inch staple go far enough to hit the screen? I mean they should just hand you the receipt anyway but still I’m struggling to understand how this happens with a mere staple.
Coffeedemon
Why is the screen just millimeters from the edge of the box so a basic staple can go through the cardboard and into the screen? Its just going to get wrecked in transit anyway.
YodaFragget
The real question is why is there no spacers in the packaging to the point where the screen is close enough to the wall/edge/face of the box to be punctured by a staple?
Spoomplesplz
THAT. IS. FUCKING. HILARIOUS.
LMAO.
GameStop have probably been preparing for this for like a whole year hoping this is what brings people back into the store and now they’ll have to refund all of the busted ones.
Radiant_Fondant_4097
What in the goddamn, just how exactly does this even enter the realm of thought?
You just… don’t use a stapler onto a box, how the hell is that ever going to work driving bits of metal into it to attach a little bit of paper? Use a roll of tape christ, and no it doesn’t take longer as long as you have a roll with a cutter on it.
TheCzar11
I was surprised that the screen was facing up and so close to the top of the box. I’d have put it a little deeper in there.
coie1985
Well, when I said “never buy a console at launch, because there are always issues in the first few months of a console’s lifecycle,” I didn’t have idiot Gamestop stapler policy in mind.
sufferpuppet
This is so stupid. GameStop if nothing else should know some people view the boxes as collectables and won’t want holes punched in them.
-KFBR392
I love that everyone is giving better ideas for what they should’ve done now. Trust me guys, they now know that stapling was a bad idea.
DramaticBee33
Well when you pay people $10/hr they don’t care
kingjim1981
They using 9 inch staples?
WildJimWest
If you push anything through the box of an electronic, you’re making quite the dumb decision.
ThreatLevelNoonday
Staten island, huh.
…
Do I even need to say it?
K-Shrizzle
Yeah guys let’s stick with scotch tape next time
0pulentL1me
Just audibly screamed after reading the title… WTF?? My husband used to work at our local game stop years ago, and I know they would be HORRIFIED if they found out their employees did this.. I figured that keeping the box as “pristine and displayable” as possible was common practice in the gaming community?
Dopa-Down_Syndrome
They ran out of tape or hands to hand customers the receipts or something???
ervin_pervin
Yes, let’s use staples on a boxed item when tape exists.
DarthLeon2
I just opened mine myself, and the Switch unit is remarkably close to the front of the box, easily close enough to hit the screen if you puncture the box. Why they put the actual Switch unit on top and all the accessories underneath it is beyond me.
Fun-Customer39
The number of nintendo shills on here is astonishing. If a staple can go through the screen, it’s a shitty package, regardless of gamestops dumb decision
