Hi all, I am having a terrible week and I have been losing a lot of sleep over this. I hope that by sharing this, I can maybe prevent someone else from having this happen to them.
Ever since last year, I have been saving up for the 5090. Overkill in most cases, but my Samsung 7680×2160 monitor needs it (or the 4090) to be able to handle 240hz. A few weeks ago, I finally had enough saved up and I was so excited to receive my new video card!
I compared all the usual websites popular in the Netherlands and Amazon NL was the cheapest option. They're also a big name, so I figured everything would be fine, but after making me wait a full week longer than the week I already waited for my original delivery date, I received a damaged and unsealed box with bags of rice, pasta and an old videocard I can't tell which one it even is.
I obviously immediately contacted Amazon about this. They made me wait several days and finally I was asked to make a bunch of photos, which I did. They then asked me to return the package to Amazon for them to check the order, but I have this really awful feeling in my gut that they're not going to take this seriously.
Before anyone asks, I did order from Amazon themselves and they had this GPU listed as "new". From the internal track & trace I could see that they had to ship the GPU all the way from Spain, which took over a week with a bunch of stops.
In the past, I did order my 2000 euro monitor from them, and a bunch of other orders which mostly went okay, but you only have to pull the short end once to be royally screwed. I have no idea how this could have even happened and I really just want to wake up out of this nightmare.
TLDR: I ordered a 5090 from Amazon NL, but I received bags of rice, pasta and a random dusty old GPU instead. Amazon has so far not been very helpful or provided a refund.

atleast you got a good amount of carbs!
How was the pasta?
Lot’s of people gets scammed on Amazon. I would go directly to a store to get one. Also with the microcenter stuff – it’s a good idea to open the package to check if everything is in there.

The story about this happening at the California Microcenter stars 45 seconds in.
And this is why I only shop for expensive PC parts on megekko and azerty. They might be more expensive there but I have yet to have a bad experience with them.
It really does feel like a nightmare. I had something similar happen to me when I ordered a 7900xt. I did eventually get a refund, but they were slow about it. I ended up sending an email to [jeff@amazon.com](mailto:jeff@amazon.com), which seemed to speed things along. Chatting with customer support people was marginally helpful.
I now call the site Scamazon, and will never order any computer hardware over $200 from them.
It doesn’t matter if a gpu is listead as new. You are supposed to order from an official distrubutor. At the very top it might say Amazon or GIGABYTE because that’s who posted the original listing of the product but when you are buying it and there are no products available from the main distributor it will give you an option to buy from one of the optional ones and any random Joe can be on that list, even ones impersonating Amazon. Never buy anything when only the other sellers option is available. If other sellers page lists some other store then go to that store instead of buying through Amazon to be sure that this is a real listing.
Edit: Before more people assume so I’m not saying here that scams don’t happen unless you buy from other sellers. I mean that most people get scammed by buying from other sellers which turn out to be impersonators or fake companies. Scams in the distribution chain or warehouses are still possible.

I thought from the pic that was bread haha, and I had an Amazon Alabama inbread GPU joke cooking. Oh well π
Amazon is the more luxurious Aliexpress
You ordered the Aorus Master Rice instead of Ice. Classic mistake
Same thing happend to me once, it super-sucks.
But luckily you live in the EU and have buyer protections.
you can get a full refund from amazon or a replacement product.
Those who do this cannot be human. They are immoral.π€¬
I hope all this sorted out for you, wish you luck from here

To the scammers:
Aorus rice cake π
Ive never had a problem getting a refund from Amazon for anything even if a 3rd party seller. Where are you based and did you pay on credit card?
crazy stuff
Well that’s not a new card.
Someone previously bought it, swapped the parts out, refunded it and Amazon failed to check that it actually was the 5090. It happens so often that I’d be surprised if you lose your returns claim
You are getting refunded. They judge by the number of returns you made, especially expensive ones. If your account is legit then = refund. Unfortunately I know this scam and Amazon does as well.
Stop. Buying. GPUs. On. Amazon.
Post above this:
Hey ive ordered some penne pasta and basmati rice , but ive got RTX5090 instead.
My advice would be to dispute the charge immediately to get those funds back and then try to buy one first hand off of somebody who’s selling it new that way you can open it up and examine it that’s what I did for my 5090 master

Apparently we should now record ourselves opening packages, cause this can happen even with legit stores. There was a big scam that happened with 5090s and Micro Center recently where the distributor shipped a bunch of tampered 5090 boxes to them. This could be a similar case. I would never buy something this expensive from Amazon though, since they have a lot of 3rd party distributors.
I am sorry this happened to you, and I can empathize. Hope it gets resolved soon, and in your favor.
But a picture of a bag of rice and a bag of pasta on top of a graphics card is fucking hilarious. Was not expecting to see something like it. π
You also have that Samsung monitor? Yeah, the 4090 can only push 120hz on it as I found out.
You need to know that amazon is only place where other people or store sell things.
So yes its similar shit like you order from local market or aliexpres but they have ok support at least in my case everything was solved.
Probably will have better luck with the credit card company
Make sure to keep all evidence and communication records
Useless info: this is a GeForce RTX 2080 Ti EX KFA
At least is something you could use π
If they do not set this right contact your local consumer rights protection agency and file the complaint, Eu is strict when it comes to this kind of thing.
They knew you wouldn’t be able to afford food for a while π€
The pasta will weigh the same amount as the card that was stolen as a robot checks the weight for the return item. If it matches it will refund the customer.
as a fellow netizen living in the Netherlands its funny to me how ive gotten scammed more times on amazon than AliExpress or Temu
If it makes you feel any better, I recently ordered a Celestron product on Amazon and they shipped me the wrong Celestron product.
Went from a $450 item to a $200 item.
Now I’m just waiting on them to give me my money back so I can buy the item again.
Russian 5090: is potato.
Are you not using Tweakers? I’ve never seen Amazon being the cheapest option.
Yep. It was a mistake. So maybe now try amd for 750β¬ π
my friend ordered pixel 8 from amazon de and got hair trimmer, returned it and they said that they wont give refund because thats not what they sent. its a freak show there
That’s why, when my GF got her PS5 delivered, we recorded everything.
We filmed carrying it in our flat, opening the box, filmed the small bump on the PS5 box and how we unpacked it and turned it on for the first time.
It turned on and we had no problem, but just in case we would have evidence of no wrongdoing on our side for a easy refund.
We will do that for every 100β¬ + item we order.
OP, hope you get your refund soon.
Yep this is why I film every unboxing until I’m sure it’s all good, see this happen so often lately.
pcmasterrice
was the seller Amazon directly or was it was it a random shop which sells through amazon?
Itβs an impasta!
I only buy from Scan computers in the UK after being messed around buying pc parts from Amazon. Had problems with a Β£2.1k Sequential synthesiser (they do pro audio as well) and Scan were quick to exchange it after a quick phone call to talk through the issue.
Havenβt got the time or the mental energy for bs anymore Iβd rather pay slightly more for decent after service.
Amazon returns are done by weight if it weighs the same back on the shelf it goes π
Seems like it shipped from Amazon Italy π€π½
Azerty and Alternate have the same card for the same price and it would’ve arrived the next day.
So it wasn’t the cheapest option and why wait a week for it to be delivered from Spain.
