This PC was gifted to me 3 years ago by someone here who saw my setup in Syria, where they gave me their old computer, with its box and packaging, along with things here and there like thermal paste and extra fans, and they paid for the shipping, and another person sent me their 1030 graphics card and an old SSD, and about two weeks ago, someone gifted me a 3070 graphics card.

Having left Syria, this PC stayed in its box for 3 years stored at someone's house where I couldn't have it, because I was living in a terrible accommodation due to a financial situation and I had no space for it, neither was I allowed to use electricity for it, so I kept dreaming of opening this gift for 3 years, and today, I finally managed to.

Now I need to buy a used monitor and a power cable, and see if it survived the shipping and collecting dust for 3 years, hoping it'll turn on.

Here are the specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-3960X or Intel Core i7-3930K
  • CPU Cooler: watercooler
  • GPU: Nvidia 3070
  • RAM: Not sure yet, but it's 8 sticks of RAM, some of which are DDR3-1600 CL11
  • Motherboard: Asus P9X79 WS
  • SSD: 2x 240GB

Now, I'm aware that there are bottlenecks in this setup, and it's an old computer, but since it's a desktop PC, it'll be much easier to upgrade than a laptop, and I hope that I can slowly upgrade it once the financial situation allows. Regardless of its specs, it's an upgrade from my MX130 laptop GPU.

I'm not sure what to do with the other CPU, I'm told these were really expensive when they first came out, idk if they're still valuable now though, eBay?

I'm thinking of starting a Twitch or YouTube channel after it's built, where I play really old games that I couldn't play because I didn't have a graphics card, for nostalgia.

I'm slowly upgrading my bare-bone vehicle to participate in this race, and soon enough, I'll have my first real desktop PC after not having one since 2012. It may be a Frankenstein of a PC, but it's my PC, and I love it.

To the people who helped me get here, yes, you, you're reading this right now, hi, and to the 3 very special people who collectively gifted me this PC, thank you so much, you changed my life for the better and gave me hope to keep going, I owe you, thank you.

Congrats on the new (old) PC! I had to look up those CPUs but they sound fairly powerful for a 3rd gen intel, and the 3070 of course is still solid to this day. Happy gaming OP!

I’m looking for an i7 3930k here in Brazil. It’s older than my current cpu but has more performance in certain old games I play

Congrats on the setup and glad life is going better for you! The 8 sticks of RAM is interesting to me… I’ve built and had a lot of PCs open… the most I’ve seen is 4 slots so that’s pretty cool. (though performance wise, I can’t comment on)

Happy gaming, RAID the SSDs, they’re almost like NVMe that way

A 3070 is a purely unhinged pairing to that system, I love it. Congrats, OP.
