That delay is a killer! Every time it happens, I just want to smash the controller, but then I remember I need it for the next boss fight.

I feel like my expedition 33 experience will make me significantly better in this game

At least expedition 33 bosses give you a turn to attack, some of those ER DLC bosses really make you scratch your head on the intended way to beat them

there’s one enemy type that has such a delayed attack it made me laugh

Attack delay in Expedition 33 is brutal. Honestly, I think the real enemy in Elden Ring is lag.
CrimsonComet19
These delayed attacks are insane

I think the worst offender of this in the game ia an enemy from a couple of enemies that have the game name.
Clair and Obscur, Obscur is what I would say is the normal version, it delays the attacks a bit but it’s normal compared to the other enemies. The real offender is Clair which have the exact same moveset as Obscur but they all have pretty lengthy windups.

Controller: I survived Dark Souls, but Elden Ring lag might be the end of me.
I like game’s combat in general but having all the enemies spamming those delayed attacks is a sign of unoriginal and bad gamedesign.

Exp33 is a good lesson in how to do things sensibly and not hand holdy
P.S off topic as hell but Battlefront 3 is otw imo, I explain more in a recent comment but yeah can anyone tap in and give me their thoughts on that?

The thing that throws most people off is how we perceive movements. Most things will wind up then immediately move after a wind up. It’s pattern recognition and expedition 33 takes advantage of that by changing the wind ups of attacks. It’s purely psychological.
Think about it, a boxer cocks his arm for a punch and immediately lets loose. Expedition 33 enemies tend to cock back their arm, hold for a bit then slowly start throwing that punch. But here’s the added kicker, as the punch is being thrown, they’ll go slow for the first half then ramp up to full speed. Kinda like forcing a flinch out of someone.

That’s because you people get wrong the mechanics in expedition 33, once you get used to sounds, you will never be hit again.

Wait, what delay? Isn’t it turn based?

The attack delay is always the same so eventually you can memorize it

Thats what dodge is for. Learning the delays. The dodge success window is much larger, and when you start perfecting dodges, you can consider moving up to parry for the large damage counter attacks.
Having started NG+, some bosses need for you to have perfected parrying otherwise theyll just grind you down to nothing. Theres the tree root boss in the crushing caves, the walla start closing in, I think you get 5 rounds to kill him, otherwise its a wipe. He casts exhaust so youre not generating attack points, youve gotta rely on counter attack damage (and fire stacks).
Holy fuck I love Expedition 33.
