This is why I turn off my monitor when downloading.
I do not know the prices but by now no one should be playing games off a HDD especially sense you can get internet faster than the write speed of a hard drive so it just becomes a bottleneck.
I get why she might have done that. But usually one should ask before touching someone else’s PC.

Probably best upgrade you can do is to somehow persuade your family to buy a better internet plan. Jesus 5 MB/s was my normal 5 years ago. I was 15 at the time and I myself arranged a new internet contract in my fathers name and turned on auto payment with his credit card lol. He was also happy to get a better internet so no problem occured!

yikes also feel bad for that speed. i remember having 100/10 line thinking this is the shit. Now with gigabit it’s nice. I can download stuff on a whim basically and it feels kinda nice.
I rarely play nowadays but my friend wanted to play battlefront 2, i waited something like 10minutes and i was up and running 95gb i think

In my household im the most tech savvy person.
Im not rly that into tech, just a bit more than the usual cus i spend a lot of time behind the pc, it comes woth the hobby i guess.
My point being, everyone else in the house sees me as this great deity with magical computer powers, which sucks because they expect unrealistic things from me.
Good thing however is that they blindly trust me.
If my pc is running in my room then theres no way they will ever touch it lol, same with the optiplex server in the other room, they just wont touch it

i remember this when i used to live with my parents. The pain of downloading a 100mb+ to 1gb+ sized download on 56k or early broadband.
Boomers will vastly overestimate what the electricity cost is to run a computer, they have no idea. It’s about a euro per day, depending on your electricity price. Assuming 200W for 24h is 4.8kWh at 25eurocent/kWh is 1.2EUR/day. And a typical PC will idle lower than that.
I remember having problems like this, especially when we only had 10MB/s and it would take about a day to download a game and it made the internet was unusable for the whole house
