Cities in Japan have limited space so this makes a lot of sense. I’d buy one in the UK

[Smart cars](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_Fortwo) have been a thing for a long time. The current lineup isn’t particularly mai-mai like, but some of their older cars definitely qualify.
