The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a mammoth success judging by most metrics. It's not only one of the most acclaimed games of its decade, it's also sold a whopping 60 million copies and passed Super Mario Bros. on the all-time charts. But CD Projekt Red doesn't want to rinse and repeat the formula for its future games.
Joint CEO Adam Badowski said as much in a new podcast looking back on a decade of the generational RPG. "At the very beginning of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we decided to combine those two things: water and fire," Badowski said. "We would like to continue with this approach with all our next games."
Speaking on upcoming CDPR games, the co-studio head explained they "have to add something" in every new release. "We have to add something that changes the consensus. We don't want to copy our own tricks all over again and again. So every game should consist [of] something new."
Badowski acknowledges that CDPR games do tend to follow a loose formula, sure – they're usually "open world, story-driven, quality" RPGs – but, still, "every new game has to bring something new. So this is the general rule for the company."

All they need is a story equally as good as TW3 but with good gameplay, combat, and magic. They don’t need to reinvent the wheel.
if only ~~ubisoft~~ other companies did the same…
I hope they improve on the combat. It was passable in the past, but now I just get bored fighting in witcher 3. I think the enemies are too simplistic, the movement of the game was good in itself.
Let’s just hope they learned their lesson about bugs and performance issues from cyberpunk.
One of my favorite games but that launch was rough.
They should stfu about innovation after the cyberpunk lying campaign
Innovation keeps games fresh while staying true to CDPR’s strengths, open worlds, rich stories, and quality. I m waiting to see what they create next.
Stick Ciri in an empty room and dont let her out until you can have fun just moving around the space with nothing else. Gameplay should be fun and intuitive, not wondering if your character is going to actually switch directions when you push left instead of right.
Glad to hear they don’t want to go the way of Fallout
Well at least this game might have better combat than Witcher 3 if they’re not copying
I hope they improve the immersion. They could take inspiration from Kingdom Come Deliverance. Day night cycles with people that defend their properties, ability to talk to all NPCs and enter all buildings etc. (opposite of what Cyberpunk did)
I want to be able remap buttons or just have them be mapped better. Having Circle for “Jump” on PlayStation is fucking whack.
