What’s embarrassing is I misremembered MEMMAKER.EXE as being one of these scams as opposed to what it was – an EXE that loads TSRs into the space between 640k and 1024k. Anyone remember TSRs?

If this program were to actually work (which it certainly wouldn’t, 99.9% it’s malware, with a 0.1% margin of error), it’d most likely just be something to increase virtual memory, which does exist and uses your internal storage as Ram instead. It’d be really slow Ram, but it would work, and was a way more common practice in the 90s.

I think you theoretically could set aside some of your hard drives or ssds storage space as ram. There’s nothing preventing it in theory, but your operating system might be unhappy and your performance will be miserable while your ssd dies much more quickly then usual.
