Hey this is my first play through the game and have been told JINCHU-MARU is the best in game but i found this basic katana has higher stats so im unsure what to use, and why it is better ?

Byyako, the reward for completing all Wakako gigs. Easy to get early game and absolutely busted with any level of sandy
The one which speed isnt affected by stamina. Black unicorn or something

Get a non iconic with two mod slots and put cyclone on both
I stick with Nuhan and Satori.. just for style..
Byakko is best, but which to use is mainly dependent on your playstyle/build.
100% should use an Iconic, just read the Special Effects and decide which on you like more.
I would also suggest researching how to get the Iconic Swords so you can enjoy them from early on in the game.
Your jinchu-maru is only tier 5, it can be upgraded to tier 5+ (and then tier 5++), whereas your non-iconic katana is at tier 5+ already, so it will out-damage jinchu-maru until you upgrade it.
Not sure there’s really a “best” katana. There are definitely strong ones. My recommendation is always to go with what fits your vibe/theme best. Ofc there are katanas that fit in some builds better than others – jinchu-maru doesn’t really work well in builds that don’t use optical camo, for example.
My personal favourites:
– Byakko, obtained by completing all Wakako’s jobs:
> Byakko has an iconic modifier that increases melee attack range by 1 meter, Bleed chance by 10%, and allows the player to leap towards an enemy. After an enemy has been neutralized with the Byakko, the user gains a 10 second increase to attack speed by 17.5% and removes the pause between the 3 light melee combo attacks.
> works well in any blade build
– Errata, fire katana obtained either from dogtown vendor or during disasterpiece:
> Errata has an iconic modifier which allows the user to perform leap attacks to enemies, as well as guaranteeing Critical Hits on enemies that are Burning.
> It has a 10% increased chance to inflict a Burn.
> Works well in any build, performs best with other burn effects
– Scalpel, lightning katana obtained from doing the sketchy dude’s mission from the Afterlife, just outside Rogue’s booth:
> Scalpel has an iconic modifier which changes it damage type to Electrical and adds a 20% chance to apply Shock, dealing a moderate amount of Electrical damage. Additionally, while Sandevistan is active, Crit Chance is increased by 50% and all hits apply Bleeding.
> works best in a sandevistan-ninja build, exceptionally well with other shock or bleed synergies

Edit: tier 5, not legendary anymore
Basically, high damage, high attack speed, low stamina cost or having a mechanic that consumes less stamina for attacks, something like Byakko, Wakako’s gift after finishing all her gigs.
Jinchu-Maru can definitely be great, my favorite is Byakko or the Black Unicorn.
I will say, though, the reason why that non-iconic katana has slightly better stats is because it’s a Tier 5+, not just a Tier 5. If you upgrade Jinchu-Maru to 5++ it’ll outclass non-Iconic katanas.

If you’re using a Savdevistan use the scalpel

Depends on where you are at the game and for what purpose.
Byyako is by far the best minion muncher, after getting your first kill you can dice through their friends with lightning speed. But I think other weapons would better for boss fights or just a particularly tough single target.
If you don’t have sandy for whatever reason I recommend Errata due to it’s guaranteed crit once they are on fire, which is easy enough to achieve with a molotov.
Scapel is the one of the strongest with sandevistan assuming you aren’t crit capped. It’s extra crit chance and bleed when using sandevistan makes it very strong. And it’s pretty easy to get too.
Jinchu-maru is a bit weird, I never really use it but I assume if you are doing some stealth katana build it should be pretty strong with it’s guranteed crit and bonus damage against elites.
Tsumetogi is probably the strongest katana if you achieve 100% crit chance. It has the highest base damage and also weird bonus when you and attacking mid jump/sprint.
Black unicorn is a great stop gap katana that will allow you not need to worry about lack of stamina early game. Not a strong choice but early one when you lack stamina recovery options, you’ll find your dps the most consistent with this weapon
The best one is the one you think looks the coolest. Style over substance choom

scalpel + sandevistan is really nice
Personally I always go for the Byyako from Wakkako’s gigs the attack speed boost after a leap turns you into a blender.
Hear me out, u do I fire build, maybe fire projectile launcher, some qick hacks and u get the errata, does crits to targets on fire
I am committed to the Xmod Chainsword because it makes civilians flee in fear, which means I can’t accidentally kill them while waving it around indiscriminately. It has other perks too but more importantly you can have two blade mods that you can change at will
Depends on the build, if you are using sandevistan then Scalper and Byakko might be your best choices with Jinchi-Maru at being a very solid option. If not then I’d say Errata, Jinchi-Maru and a regular Tier 5++ Katana with 2 open mod slots are gonna be amazing options. Some would prefer Cocktail Stick but it is very easy to miss weapon.

If your running a sandevistan I suggest you get scalpel it’s a katana that you earn by doing a side mission, you get this side mission from a man named Denis in the afterlife it’s a fairly simple mission and in my opinion scalpel is the best katana to use as long as you pair it with a sandevistan.

Byakko, no question. Byakko + Sandevistan + full blades tree and tier 5++ micro rotors is insane.
You could try crafting the chimera mele weapon mod, severance. It has a chance for dismemberment. It is like a kneel for the katana, except kneel seems to work everytime.

Personally a huge fan of the butchers cleaver. Is it the best weapon? No. Does it have the highest single hit damage? To my knowledge yes. Is it unique in design? Absolutely. It’s labelled a knife, behaves like a blade, and executes like an axe.
Satori is great and can be obtained early
Errata katana. It’s basically a pre-disney lightsaber.
Scalpel with Sandevistan or Errata burns hell out of bad peoples. You can also try a combinaison of Yurinobu’s tanto and katana
I’ve been using tsumetogi, decent damage but also I like electrical damage for some reason⚡
Byakko blade is the most OP, finish all wakako gigs.
Scalpel blade and errata are also pretty OP if you match it with the right cyberware.

Idk. If you have an sandevistan build I used the scalpel which you can get from a quest in the afterlife. It’s good for early game especially with the crit rate. Late game I just used thermal mantis blades

I like Errata the most because napalm fire build is just super fun and it’s almost a top tier build best build anyway. A+ tier sword at worst
Throw fire grenade, slash with katana
Cocktail Stick because it’s pink.
For real best Katana is 5++ modded Katana with the correct mods which is hard to get, second option is Iconic of your choosing.
I use the sandevistan with arm blades to kill enemies quickly, I don’t know if that is a good build, I don’t really know what I like since I think hacking is very good but the sandevistan is also good, I have a big conflict on my brain for so long lmao
