So there was no point in supporting this program. People essentially lost nothing.

What’s this, like the third “loyalty” program Sony has given and taken away?
I’m sure we’ll get a replacement that requires $2,000 in purchases to redeem a single free game.
wicktus
First time I’ve heard of it, it’s US-only ?
Probably not used enough to justify the administrative and technical cost to maintain it I suppose…but tbh the whole communication is horrendous this gen, they probably made a 10 seconds spot in a state of play few years ago or an obscure blog post about it I suppose
obsertaries
I think the games and $5 credits and stuff were there as an afterthought and they wanted people to focus on the collectibles. It started right around when NFTs became a thing, right?
FeistyCandy1516
Well, I did manage back then to accumulate 20€ in store cash with playing games.
And I don’t know why, but I have a feeling that Sony might have done that to actually make paid Season/Battle Pass instead…
Deuenskae
It always seemed like every time I bought a full price game I had enough points for a 5€ gift card. It’s better than nothing.
SuperGamer960
As if raising the prices of ps plus wasn’t enough, they now also have to remove features from it too.
theblackfool
It was a free program that was completely passive. I’ll never understand why people complained about it.
Least-Path-2890
This gen has just been Sony destroying all the good will that they got with the ps4, the only feature I loved about the ps5 was the “Resume game” where you can load your last save from the Playstation home screen and what did Sony do? They removed thus feature….
noage
So 1000/60 = 16.7 so 1 free game for every 17. That’s like a 6% return. More generous than a lot of credit cards.
AggressiveDiscount74
I remember when Sony was generous with 20% off coupons and discounts in subs to PS+. Over the years they’ve consistently removed any and all programs that show they appreciate their customers. They increase the price of PS+ without adding any value to the customer to justify the price increase.
Mild-Ghost
God forbid we get free stuff now and then.
AkaShindou
And nothing of value was lost.
ICPosse8
lol oh wtfe, maybe if the game you wanted was $70. This rewards program was decent enough.
oooPDXooo
EPIC…
I’m sure that was US & or EU only too… >.>
FMC_Speed
The Xbox one isn’t too bad as you can make around 5-9 a month by playing and using bing
DarkTron
Anyone who was ever using the points to redeem games was doing it wrong, in my entire time using the service, only one game was worth less than simply redeeming game credit and buying it outright (Phasmaphobia, and tbf buying it through Stars was to this day the cheapest was to get it on PS5).
Aujax92
Turns out they aren’t very loyal to their loyalty program…
stewarte2006
My library is all digital and I did pretty well out of redeeming £5 vouchers. It’s not a lot but it did add up over a few years.
immortality20
Soon it will cost money to play games you own or to even turn the console on. Late stage capitalism is cancer.
Aengeil
a lot actually have more than $1000 of purchase if taken from history, no wonder they removing it.
Another_Road
The stars program was stupid as shit.
Sleepywalker69
Can see days of play not even having ps+ on sale.
Poopzapper
I buy enough games that I was able to redeem one free brand new game in the program’s lifetime.
Makes me feel like that guy who exploited pudding cups for air miles points.
joeboondok
Sony doesn’t understand loyalty. If they did they would have made the ps3 games backwards compatible and playable on new consoles from previous purchases.
Beta_Codex
This program sure was helpful if you play gacha games. Which it led me getting stellar blade for free. I will miss it when the times comes. It gave me monthly promos for my gacha games.

For the payers. One person was able to save up enough to buy a game on sale and Sony was like “never again”
Every time I save up for one of the free games it always ends up on Playstation Now or Plus before it happens 🤣
I got an email about this ending and my first thought was, “What the hell is Stars Loyalty”
Literally never heard of it until it ended, and I’ve been on PlayStation for a long time
No brand loyalty people. My cycle of Nintendo > Xbox > Playstation and back continues
That’s unfortunate In comparison to Xbox Rewards i’ve gotten so many controllers and free games😧
This is because Xbox is becoming less of a threat. People have been cheering or laughing at Microsoft fuck up, surprise it’s going to fuck all of us
