  1. This could be great. Or it could be downright traumatic.

I worry it will be the latter.

  2. SpecialistSix

in the interests of sticking to the source material, 95% of the audience will be culled before reaching the last ten minutes of the movie.

  3. StanTheCentipede

Have no idea if this will be good but he is definitely the best choice.

  4. Zero faith in movie adaptations of video games. Especially with how Elden Ring’s story and lore are presented.

  5. kingOofgames

Starring Jack Black as the tarnished.

    “It’s ember time”

  6. BigTimeBobbyB

Ah, I see he’s taking the “one for me, one for thee” approach.

Directors with artistic vision (which Alex Garland does have) are sometimes comfortable making a bigger budget movie that they know will be kind of crap, in order to fund their next movie which will be a personal passion project. I don’t expect this to be a good movie. I expect this to pay for a good movie.

”Lets make a movie based on a game with very obscure lore and storytelling, that will be great!”

I like it. I like this choice. This type of material doesn’t need explanation, it needs symbolic expression. He’s a great director with vision and sticks to the vision even when everything else pushes back. Just like fromsoftware games. I am now genuinely excited for this.

This is not a games that’s needs an adaptation.

  10. GutturalCringe

Didn’t really care much for Elden Ring but I’m very curious as to how this will turn out. Well, regardless of how this turns out the internet will get some great content to meme on.

Does anyone even know what the game is about? lol I couldn’t follow the story at all

  12. I mean if you just focus on the fights with small dialogue in the middle of them it could be good. Something like the Northman or Valhalla Rising where the story is simple or super simple and it focuses on visuals.

Not sure if that would be a commercial success but I imagine fans would love seeing the big fights on the big screen.

Love Alex Garland. Love Elden Ring. Have no idea how this can work.

FromSoft make purposefully obtuse non narrative centric games that reward people digging for theme and lore. How in the fuck does this translate to a strictly visual medium except as a hyper niche arthouse production?

  14. timojenbin

I better leave the theater confused about which G-name did *whatever*, but satisfied with the ending.

  15. Mickeyjj27

Damn could’ve sworn I got a notification a while ago about an Elden Ring trailer starring Henry Cavill lol

  16. KingAlphonsusI

An elden rig film can work depending on the director.
This guy is made some great stuff like anihilation and ex_machina. But he also made “men” which is awful.

His dark tone is definetly fitting. I would mind seeing an Elden Ring movie that is dark and surreal like the games. All they have to do is keep the tone.

  17. Nanganoid3000

I sense a disturbance in the force for sure,

Is this gonna be the first L for a Fromsoft IP?

  18. Illustrious-Lime-863

Not bad. He’s a decent film maker, could turn out good. There are much much worse options

  19. Invaderjim108

What gives me some confidence is that it is A24. Especially after seeing The Northman.

  20. LunarFortune

Oh great, more live action slop nobody asked for

  21. thereiam420

Gotta keep it game accurate and not explain wtf is going on at any point

  22. Kdigglerz

I’m concerned A24 won’t want to spend the money it takes to do it justice.

  23. scientist_tz

A24 is the only studio that has a chance to make this complete puzzle of a story work as a film.

I think if they just focus on the tarnished without getting into the world building weeds too much it will be fine.

  24. FrankBouch

We’ll see but I don’t have high hopes. Garland did some good movies but nothing exceptional, like Dredd, Annihilation, The beach.

  25. Turok7777

I read about this a few weeks ago on one of those shitty clickbait sites and assumed it was total bullshit.

I guess sometimes even they get good scoops.

  26. InternationalTop1576

I for one am excited for this. Gonna wait until I actually see a trailer before I comment on anything quality related

  27. tryingnottoshit

Make it claymation in the style of Mad God and I’m sold.

  28. There’s no way they can make this movie do the game any justice. Part of the charm of FromSoftware games is how vague the story is and how you have to explore the entire world, read descriptions of certain items and having to decypher NPCs talking in riddles. There’s no way they’re not going to dumb this shit down for a movie.

On top of that, I think the general story for most FromSoftware game are quite “out there” compared to regular movie’s story. One of my favourite movies from Garland, Annihilation, was also this wild/weird story and it didn’t exactly do well.

I love Garland but I have zero belief in Elden Ring working as a movie.

  29. SouLfullMoon_On

Starring Awkwafina as Ranni and Jack Black as Blaidd.

  30. A24 wants to do all the games movie adaptation. It could be great if they know how to properly do them. Atleast their seems to be a little bit of passion since they took so many them. Which is a good start and their movies are pretty good.

  31. SilvainTheThird

What, exactly, will they be making a movie of..?

The in-game plot seems fairly unuseable. These games are largely vibe based.

  32. OK__ULTRA

I’m shocked by these comments. Alex Garland definitely has the chops to adapt this. I also think it’s one of the few video game IP’s that worthy of an adaptation.

  33. This is almost certainly an adaptation of the lore George RR Martin wrote to set the story up that FromSoft used to build the story of the game. It’s not going to be an adaptation of Elden Ring the game.
