In 2018, for me, the Call of Duty with the best multiplayer, excluding historical games, was released and it was Black Ops 4.
Very inspired maps, perfect spawns, immediate fun and to top it all off, many specialists working on balancing thanks to 5v5.
These have been criticized while for me they bring everything to the game. Each game is different. The strategy is varied and we cannot all take the same character unlike BO3.
No specialist is too strong and their very powerful power activates very rarely (once per game, or even twice if you have a very good level). Aside from Zero and his abusive helicopter hacks, it's flawless.
Aside from some ridiculously powerful weapons, this game is a gem. Thanks to the team at the time.

Long TTK with contrasting instakill specialist weapons was why I absolutely hated BO4 multiplayer. It’s a “get me free kills” card that, and I mean this knowing how abused it is on several COD subreddits, takes no skill to pull off and has very few means of avoiding if you’re on the receiving end.
It WORKS for IW and BO3 because jetpack mechanics and verticality was a means to fight against it, but in BO4 that layer of depth is removed with the boots on the ground aspect.
I love BO3 and IW Multiplayer including the specialists. I love MWIII for the longer TTK (near identical to BO4’s TTK) and high pace movement. I hated BO4 MP and stuck with Blackout and Zombies instead during It’s prime.
